Magazine help - iPad Newsstand
MissDexter
09-06-2012
Recently bought an iPad and all good so far, one thing that's really doing my head in though is a Newsstand issue.
I've bought a magazine which I keep dipping into to read but it never keeps the page I left it at. It seems to come back on at a random page I read days ago.

Is there a bookmark setting that I'm not seeing?

The magazines are really apps and you will find each one different.
They are not supposed to be like ebooks, that allow you to bookmark.

I have seen a few that do seem to remember and some that do have a bookmark option.

That's a bit poor if publishers are leaving out basic options like that.

Yeah.

Some Newsstand stuff is excellent (The Guardian springs to mind), but some really are quite poor.

Not really, as the magazines are not always a page for page replica of a paper or magazine, like on the shelves.
They have integrated video, extra interactive advertising, pages within pages, split sections, games etc

Most of the mags have a panel which shows the user options and navigation on startup and with app integrated help.
As there are many navigation possibilities within these magazines and the new Itunes textbooks, its creating a step away from simple page by page reading

Also from what ive seen and heard, they are proving very popular and the user response to many of the major uk magazine titles has been very positive.

I don't see why it matters if they are not identical to the print magazine - they should still have a means to have a bookmark option or at least go to the page you were last at. And if as you say it's moving away from page by page reading surely some easy means to make bookmarks of your favorite pages would be a good to have?

All web browsers have bookmarks so for a magazine not to have seems odd and very poor work from the publisher

Nothing there is in anyway a reason why a news / media app shouldn't have an option to put you back where you were the next time you open it.
