Le Mans next weekend...

- good news, Martin Haven is working with Audi, so good luck to him.
- bad news, the result is, we get Carlton Kirby instead...

No. It's very likely, but hasn't been officially confirmed by either track or Bernie.

The 3D trackside camera test was Montreal 2010, However FOM had been testing 3D OnBoard's since Monaco 2009.

I can tell you now that the ONLY proper way to watch Le Mans live is with the Eurosport pictures (when they're not taking ad breaks or timing their channel changes terribly) and the Radio Le Mans commentary. The Eurosport commentary is absolutely garbage compared to RLM when it comes to Le Mans.

Narain Karthikeyan doing the Sky Sports F1 buzz game

Could it be inferred from Narain's inability to go around any of the Sky Sports F1 buzz game corners without crashing that he has coordination issues that make him go slowly and wide, as perhaps reflected in his driving?

I watch the non-live BBC races on the Sky Go monthly ticket via PC ( £35) and I must say that the Canadian practice shows are much better than what was produced for the Malaysian weekend.

Haha...I was sort of expecting that from Karthikeyan.

BTW I'm liking Villeneuve so far this weekend. I think he's a good addition to the team.

Found that as well very useful to have a full screen world feed during Sky's ad breaks (rather than just the pitlane channel).

Sorry if it's been covered earlier in the thread (I couldn't find it with a quick scan) but who's AD's stand in this weekend? I didn't catch his name...

Will he be Sky-padding too?

It's "Custard" - Jerome D'Ambrosio, who normally does the GP2 co-commentary. Where is Ant anyway?

I assume he's with Toyota ahead of Le Mans.

Who's the guy who voiced over the practice highlights on the BBC web site?

Possibly Andrew Benson. At least it's not the boring monotone voice who sometimes does it and misprounces surnames.

I think the voice on the practice highlights sounds like the interviewer on the Susie Wolff video.

Following on - Does anyone know why James Allen has been replaced by Jonathan Legard this weekend? I know it was pre-announced on twitter and those tweets reported earlier in this thread but why?

Race commentary isn't on 5Live this weekend - has JA got an opt out not to work for the BBC when they choose not to broadcast on 5Live?

Some beautiful hd pictures during practice today.

Wish someone would give jacques a wig, bald doesnt suit him.

I really like Jerome, he does well with the gp2 commentary
Hope hes there all weekend and good to see him with Georgie.
Georgie's dress looked wunderful in hd too...

Agree with the LeMans commentary, action on Eurosport is great, but commentary has more than often been very bad.
Where is the LeMans radio commentary? Loved listening to that when I used to go to LeMans many years ago.

Not sure exactly - although didn't we hear (accidentally) from John Hindhaugh that his wife didn't want him to attend all the races? Presumably he agreed with the BBC at the start of the season which ones he would and would not do as part of his contract - although I doubt it's to do with the station that they are broadcasting on.

Legard knew which races he'd be doing from before the start of the season as he announced a few on Twitter, I think.

Don't think James Allen has travelled to all the races since he left ITV, guess the BBC weren't offering him enough money to change that.

Not sure why he is not covering the race for five live either. I understand he is missing all the races that Jake is missing and I guess this is because the football and Olympics mean that those races will not be on five live. As far as I am aware he still goes to all races as he works for Australian tv. He was certainly in Canada last year as I was there and I saw him.

Who can forget about the blog wars between Joe Saward and James Allen?

Must echo codename's assertion that the SPEED commentators gel SO WELL together.
Watching the SKY qual build up now and enjoying JV's No Spin Zone.
He tells it like it is baby..

Cards on the table, I prefer Sky over the BBC this year. However, isn't Lazenby just woeful? I'd rather have Georgie Thompson than him, she's been a revelation in comparison...

I was only half listening ( facebooking at the same time as watching) but I'm sure he said earlier in qualifying something like "I saw Mark Webber to speak to earlier and he has yet to win a world championship (then he looked at the autocue) since 2008. It's Lewis Hamilton I'm talking about".

That made me pay attention because it didn't make sense.

A strong weekend for Hulkenberg?

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that I think from what I've seen in practice and quali so far that Hulkenberg is going to put in a strong points scoring performance this weekend. He seems to be ahead of the 2 Lotus cars.
