The near military standard magnesium alloy might be priority though. It has loads of extra features that make it my all rounder ahead of my 17".
Hey its got a matt screen. I recall at one time all perfect laptops had matt screens.

You got me thinking of my old 34 function pocket calculator.Seemingly I missed 2 extra functions.

My post was addressing your claims of your laptops superior specs compared to the MacBook Air. Obviously you were grossly wrong. Instead of ignoring every spec I posted you should at least acknowledge and accept it.

I believe these are the latest models, but I can't tell because they have these trailing codes that follow the model name (i.e. NP900X3A-B02US and UX31A-DB72) that differ slightly from model to model and I don't know how to read them. They also make no mention of "Ivy Bridge" so I can't tell if these have them or not. Can someone confirm these are the latest models?

Samsung Series 9: http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/l...3A-B02US-specs

ASUS Zenbook Prime: http://www.amazon.com/Zenbook-Prime-...ata/B00863L3KY

There's also an ASUS Zenbook model UX32, but on the ASUS website it's not classified as a 'Prime' model, but review websites say it is a Zenbook Prime. Confused about that.

Actually, I think I will cross out the Samsung Series 9 from the list. I asked Samsung customer support what type of external batteries they have to offer for this model, and they told me they don't sell anything, and they referred me to another company called "SamsungParts.com"

I input the model number "NP900X3A-B02US" for the model search and it found nothing. I even typed in "series 9" for the keyword search, and still nothing...which means I guess they do not even sell spare batteries.

I need at least 12+ hours worth of battery life, since we are not allowed to use corded chargers in school due to an apparent safety hazard. So I need to charge all my stuff at home and bring them to school (since I spend ~12+ hours in school every day).

There is a certain ultrabook that has average battery life but gives you the option to add a "battery slice" which would take battery life up to about 16 hours. I think it's a lenovo or a sony.

You understand that not even the MBA will give you 12 hours of battery life.

Yes, and that's probably because you cannot take out the battery and replace it with a fresh one, like you can do with other laptops. With my other laptops, I just kept one battery charged as a backup and when my battery died, I just switched it out with a charged one.

With Lenovo, many of their laptops have "slices" which you dock with your laptop and it's like a ubiquitous second battery that combines the battery life of two batteries so you can use it continuously without having to replace the battery.

I just left an e-mail for ASUS in regards to this similar issue, and am waiting to hear back from them, or I'll just give them a call tomorrow on a business day. So I guess it's between the Zenbook/Prime and the X1 Carbon.

How is it a safety hazard? Is it in case someone falls over it? I'm a student as well and we can use laptop chargers as long as we don't leave our laptops on the floor where everyone's walking around.

Lol at comparing that tat to a Macbook Air. I see alanwarwic is still spouting his ridiculously ill-informed anti-Apple bile all over any Mac threads.

Fact is, you just don't like Apple, so you will try and do anything to convince yourself that their products are no good. Would-be purchasers would do wise to avoid blatantly biased opinions from people with ulterior motives.

Ultrabooks are not meant to have swappable batteries.

Not "probably." Since the Air has an unswappable battery then of course its battery life will be determined by that single battery.

In this day and age all it takes is for one person to trip and everyone else has to pay for it.

The problem is not that he is trying to convince himself, that's a given, the problem is that he is always trying to convince others that Apple's products are no good. That would be fine if his comparisons were fair and he had accurate knowledge of Apple products but that is rarely the case.

Have you actually read the ops post?

I certainly don't like the disposable trend on new ultrabook type laptops.
My bias towards functionality has always been there and your 'attack the message' argument is low on function.

There is that I suppose, but how do people manage if they have long days and need to use their laptops/phones?

I personally think that's a serious flaw. Considering even the cheapest netbooks support spare batteries. Although i'm willing to accept that on tablets and even phones.

I'm well aware, he's been doing it for the best part of a decade here.

Take a pill for your anti-Appleitis. If anyone else made the Macbook Air you'd be fawning all over it, fact is you just detest Apple, even if they made the best products in the world (which they do imho) you wouldn't allow yourself to admit it.

Ultrabooks are designed to have minimal size/weight, swappable battery complicates things. So while there are some models that have that, it's hardly a flaw if they don't, IMO.

This really reminds me that I once recall a posting saying " I love Apple stuff but criticise them and your life ain't worth living."

How can the customer win when there is only one side to that coin?

I appreciate that. They're just not for me I guess.

I am now considering a VAIO Z. It's not classified as an Ultrabook, but upon looking at video reviews, it looks pretty darn thin. It has i7 Quad Cores unlike Ultrabook processors, and RAID SSD (which I don't really need, but there's no other option). Also has a battery slice which can allow me to use the thing for 12 hours without having to recharge, which is very important to me.

I just got one. A 2 year old 11 inch one off eBay. Nice being able to sling it in my rucksack and have a Mac anywhere I go. And it's so cute! And that SDD makes my much beefier MBP seem sluggish.

Really one one issue I've had is there's not as much wrist-rest space to either end of the keyboard, so with the way I'm used to typing, I keep kitting the apostrophe key rather than the shift key.
