BBC iPlayer via PC
Is anyone else having issues with BBC iPlayer.
For some reason my recorded programmes disappeared from the Download screen last night and I cannot get them to re-appear. It seems to be something to do with Adobe Air 3.3 as this was silently updated last night but I can't now find an older version of Air to undo this. A couple of other forums are reporting issues, is anyone here having this problem? |

Is it the same issue as here ?
But with v 3.2 BBC iPlayer just showing a Black Blank screen this morning http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...5#post58728085 I always save such downloads, so I can revert back if I want to |

No not yet, tried almost everything but downloads seem to happen but they don't appear in the window but they are in the folder, very weird!

I have also been having the same problem using Win 7 since friday. I have found the following advice (see link).
http://www.martynwalker.com/2012/03/...dor-adobe-air/ After doing 1-4 I have also deleted the BBC directory in My Video's. Not sure how this will work I am just going to try it now. But as posted above if anyone manages to fix the problem please post on this thread. |

I also had the blank A-Z and Expiring lists in iPlayer after the Adobe AIR 3.3 update. I backed up the repository, and tried uninstalling and reinstalling AIR and iPlayer (even getting the old Adobe AIR 3.2 from www.oldapps.com) and restoring the repository, but that did not get the iPlayer A-Z and Expiring lists back.
I finally got the A-Z and Expiring lists (partially) back by moving the repository out of the way, and moving the repository subfolders back a few at a time. After moving each group of repository folders back i would start up iPlayer to check the lists, and it would work until a certain point when the lists went blank again. There were a large number of recordings, so it could have been due to the number of recordings. In the iPlayer preferences the space for iPlayer recordings is set to 400GB, but the files I moved back in only take up 34GB at the moment. I currently have 50 programmes back in the repository, and at about 60 programmes the A-Z and Expiring lists go blank. |

According the the BBC, there is currently a problem with iPlayer which they are trying to fix.
Issues are - downloaded programmes disappear and user cannot download new programmes. Affects Macs too. So at least it's confirmed as a problem... |

That's a relief it's a known issue - I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice now and still the same problem.

It's not quite the same problem many of us are having, I haven't had any programmes disappearing nor deleted.Unless they consider a black blank page as disappearing content, which it isn't ! I wonder why this problem suddenly occurred, AFAIK nothing changed. Obviously something did. And why only certain series links, they must be implementing them slightly differently. |

My downloaded programs disappeared last week and really annoying, so0me of them were outside the 7 days from original broadcast so I emailed BBC giving them the programs and asking if they could make them available for download once they've fixed the problem.
ba747: Thanks for your post, I've just gone into my videos library and clicked on one of the programs in the repository, hovered mouse over the icon showing a broken link symbol and box came up asking which program I want to use to open the file. Will try to watch it later using Windows Media Player and will post back to let everyone know what the outcome is. |

I've found the downloaded programs are still there, but just not visible on the main iPlayer screen. Just right click on the iPlayer icon on the right of the taskbar and it a full list pops up.

Along with countless others I've written in to complain. They give the impression that support is available through forums like this when it's not (unless it's a known issue & there are work arounds). I for one can't remember all the programmes that I've downloaded & which ones I've watched. I suppose from the Beeb's view point you can download & watch things in WMP (maybe we should keep a record of what we watch with pencil and paper! |

Is that from the main iplayer website?
Here's what I did but it didn't work. When desktop loaded I followed this Start > Documents > Videos > BBC iPlayer > repository which got me to a box with several files in all starting boovls##_hi_#########.mp4 (# represent numbers). I clicked on one of them and got a box asking me to choose the program I wanted to use to open the file so chose Windows Media Player. Box comes up saying that Windows Media Player cannot play the file. Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec used to compress the file. I'm sure that Windows Media Player can play mp4 files which means it's the codec that's the issue, does anyone know which codec I need? Latest info in BBC iPlayer help is that they believe the problem has been resolved, bad news is that programs outside the 7 days from broadcast cannot be downloaded again. Thanks to anyone who can provide me with the link to get the codec I need to watch my programs, search on Google only got me to a download for vlc files. In my opinion, BBC should make an exception to the 7 day rule to allow re downloading. Editing to say I can't open BBC iPlayer Desktop, I click on the icon on my desktop and nothing happens. Also can't download programs to BBC iPlayer Desktop. |

Just checked on Microsoft's website and .mp4 files can't be played in Windows Media Player without codec packs. I've downloaded what I hope is the right one from download.cnet.com.

Same thing happens to me.
Good thing I can remember what I downloaded, so that I can download it from somewhere else. |

same thing here - iplayer desktop is blank i.e. no downloads showing. If I close it, it refuses to open. Going to the BBC webpage, clicking on download seems to work but doesn't.
I have no idea what I had downloaded! I have done several uninstalls and reinstalls of Air and Iplayer, including deep reg scans, all to no avail. Hope they fix this soon... |

Still not working on my normal profile. Anyone know why this would be and has anyone else tried that? I've been looking at the iPlayer log files & a few others & notice some entries in there that don't tie up with the latest install I made. I think the issue has something to do with the last release of Air (8/6/2012 I think) & the way the Beeb has implemented it. It will have got fixed for a lot of people but suspect if you directed your videos to be stored in other than the default repository (as I did) the fix hasn't worked properly. If I get anywhere and manage to get it working in my normal admin account - I'll post here. Still think the Beeb's response is pretty awful though. |

Hi following on from my earlier post I've now managed to get things working. This is what I did:-
Using my *real* admin account (see earlier post) I... Used the instructions on the BBC iPlayer pages giving details of how to get a clean uninstall. This not only involves uninstall via Control Panel but deleting a number of folders (directories) & associated files. For good measure I ran CCleaner to get rid of any odd bits in the registry. Having tested that after a re-boot I then logged onto my normal account (still admin but as mentioned earlier not quite as full admin as my original admin account). This too works. I just have one little problemette but it shouldn't cause anyone other than me an issue so I won't labour it here. I still think the implementation of the Air update was the trigger otherwise why have so many people had issues? Generally speaking I install most software with my normal account including iPlayer before it failed & until this update all was well for at least a year so we keep coming back to this update as the culprit or catalyst for these problems. Let's see how we go. |
