All those awards and I'd still rather listen to my next door neighbour taking a dump than ever hear Someone Like You again.

Still, whatever makes people happy.

Shes the stand out contemporary performer. Its not just the quality of her material, its the fact it is real. It has depth and meaning, and in the modern era thats incredibly rare.

Just read today that 21 is 735,558 sales from reaching 10 million sold (diamond cerification) in the US which would be the 9th album released this century to do so.

Shes an absolute cert for the rock hall of fame, and one of a tiny handful of current artists who are (Eminem, Radiohead.. very few others).

The difference with Eminem and Radiohead is they made their money by selling actual albums. Actual things like cassette tapes, vinyl records and CDs. Don't get me wrong I know a lot of adults like to fool themselves on itunes that they are really buying an album and the kids just don't know any better but these other people that sell 10's of millions of record sold them by people walking into record stores and buying them at RRP prices, not on itunes for pennys.

Great awards and records though but if in this day and age, physical music was still the way people listen to music, no way would she have sold that much. Itunes has a lot ot answer for those records infact a lot of these female singers in the charts have itunes to thank because if it was even as little as say....5/6 years ago when CD singles were still big, they would never have sold millions. No chance. Buf for pennys online? Yeah They'll sell a lot. That's not a real single.

Itunes prices and prices in shops don't really differ that greatly anymore it makes no difference and most people back up there music onto hard copy yes itunes has had a part to play but it doesn't lessen the purchase or the records.

I call bs on this. In fact I think it's completely the opposite situation. Those physical albums sold when there wasn't illegal downloading available like today. How many more millions would 21 have sold w/o the ability to illegally download? And it sounds like you aren't familiar with club sales. They sold albums for pennies at times back in the day.

And Adele's 21 has yet to be deeply discounted. She will sell boatloads more when that happens.

We are watching history unfold for this album. And for the few haters or those who think they are so insightful, no badmouthing or shaking of the head and stomping feet is going to change that. I f*ing love that part so much.

Edit: 21 has shipped almost 25 million copies so far. The majority of the sales have been in stores; those physical copies in hand that you talk about. At the same time, in the first quarter of 2012 alone, three singles from the album sold over a million copies each in the US. Never under $1.29.
Adele does not need to give her music away for free.

It the era of illegal downloads, three singles have been #1 at the same time the album was at #1. That's never happened before and it probably will never be broken by a live artist again.

longliving obvioulsy hasn't bought anything off itunes err, ever. Pennies?? Certainly in regards to albums there is so little difference between the iTunes download price and the physical album. In fact, you can pick up the physical album online for pennies (see what i did there? ) less than you would pay for it on iTunes - and that includes delivery.

The rest of longliving's post has already been successfully picked apart in just the manner I would have so i'll leave it at that.
