My 1 yr old Cat ??
I have a young, just turned 1 year old cat . He literally chucks his cat litter out of the tray. I have tried to disencourage him. But he just looks at me. This has always been a problem. However, now he has started to tip over his water bowl! He has 4 fresh water bowl systems. But he has started to tip them up!! Any ideas why? And any ideas how to disencourage him?

I'm by no means an expert and we had a similar experience with our house cat, our solution was to buy a litter tray with a lid and flap so he couldn't get rid of it if he tried. Helps with the smell too.

I have one that totally lacks any spatial awareness. He digs a hole in the litter tray, puts his front paws in it and then craps over the edge onto the newspaper. A covered litter tray solved his little problem...
The same cat plays with the water bowl and has discovered how to get a large, stainless steel dog bowl spinning and slopping water everywhere. He wipes his paw through the water faster and faster and the bowl spins and makes a heck of a racket on a tiled floor... But, it attracted our attention and I believe that is his objective. It's a game and we solved (spoiled) it by giving him a bucket of water filled to the brim and he sits and drinks out of that. |

Ooh interesting points - Ta Normandie and Speedloafer! I will look into covered trays - any ideas where to buy from? Maybe he is a little spatially unaware. He is a risk taker and will be hyperactive. I have joked that he has ADHD, maybe he does lol

Bored and stressed?
Is he an outdoor or indoor cat? Any particular breed? Does he have toys? Do you play with him? One year is quite young - guessing he is neutered otherwise you'd be asking about spraying., So there is lots of room for improvement. But he does need a fullfilling environment to begon with. |

Cat litter - one of ours used to get a bit shall we say over enthusiastic with the digging and scattered stones far and wide, we got round this by putting less stones in and a gentle stroke on the head if they started to go a bit crazy again, it sees to haze solved the problem after a few days. We do occasionally get a couple of stones knocked over the edge but just a couple
![]() Water - we use a ceramic water bowl it was supposed to be a mini casserole type dish but we'd never used it for that, it's nice and solid, stable and doesn't slip too much on the floor, the cats do stick their paws in to test the height of water it is cleaned and changed several times a day for them, no problems. Maybe you could try something similar - you could always go back to your other water system at a later date

My Impossible Princess would chuck her litter tray contents out. I bought her a cat lavatory in the end so it was impossible to kick out.

He is young, and a very content indoor sphynx cat. He is lovely. He has lots of toys and has free roam of the whole house. I do play with him. And he receives a lot of love and attention! Equally he gives me lots of attnetion to and will follow me like a shadow. I am the one he has become attacthed to. The tipping of the bowl could be a play thing or an attention thing. It is very recent. I thought it was a protest that he wanted to go into the kitchen. We had a mouse get into the kitchen (now gone!) and he shortly saw his first fly in the kitchen. He has started to sit for hours in the kitchen keeping guard. The kitchen is one of the few places where we shut the door, and he does pine to go in their.
Anyhow, we tried water bowls but these fresh water tap containers seem to encourage the cats to drink more frequently rather than from the tap! I have ordered some closed litter trays and I will tie the water tap containers down! Thanks for your advice!! |
