Windows MediaCenter Edition
There seems very little discussion of this topic on these forums. I would have expected more. Reasons I can think of for lack of interest are:
1. Too expensive at present (£900+) 2. Too unreliable 3. Hatred of Microsoft (well, dislike/cynicism anyway) 4. Too early to buy (in terms of likely future development) 5. No card slot/CAM for PayTV options (eg TUTV) 6. Difficult to ensure EPG upgrade interface 7. DVD & CD play quality lower than standalone players Yet even current PC-based product offers lots of functional integration and connectivity (eg - Evesham twin DTT tuner eBox for £999). Countering the above 7 reasons: 1. Prices will fall 2. Should be reliable if well-built. 3. Religion! 4. Always too early to buy 5. Can use separate (breakout) box + firewire 6. No! Easy over Internet 7. OK. Use separate players - admittedly at extra cost I suspect price and culture (what! a PC in my living room) are the main barriers. Are there other reasons? Anyone have one, or seriously considering one? Anyone built their own? Roger |
