It is £1,000 in cash and there is absolutely no way you can be caught and face any criminal or civil penalties.

It is just lying on the street. Origins of the money are unknown.

Regardless you will 100% NOT get caught.

Can I change my vote then? Course I would - who wouldn't? A grand for nowt? It's not that much money in the great scheme of things but yeah, I'd take it if it were just lying there.

What's the point of this thread?

If it was cash, untraceable etc. I would hand it in to the police, and reclaim it after 6 weeks.

And feel rich AND good.

£1000 not much these day, though. You should do poll for £10, 000.

who could give such a guarantee, ok sure I might, but if there is someone to give me the guarantee, I would have already been caught.

It's only a grand. Hardly life changing.

I answered yes, but I would never steal from someone old and vulnerable. That would be unforgiveable. Young and vulnerable, yes, by all means.

It's not life-changing, but it's still a lot of money to some people, particularly in these grim economic times. I for one would be gutted to lose £1000.

I don't think I would take it, not without knowing it's origins. I would feel too guilty knowing that I could've deprived somebody of a much needed lump sum.

Now, if I did know it's origins, and it turned out to be some drug dealers profit margin, that would be a different story.

I was going to say that it'd depend on who the money belonged to; that I'd happily fiddle my taxes to the tune of £1k whereas I wouldn't nick £1k out of a little old lady's cookie jar, or whatever.

However, since the OP has specified that the money is lying on the ground I think I'd probably try and return it to it's owner just in case it's a person who really needs it.
I should say that I am selfish enough that I might not hand it in to the cops just in case they decided to hand it over to some chancer who tried to claim it and if somebody's going to steal the cash it might as well be me so I'd probably print off a handful of flyers, tape them to lamp-posts near the scene and see if anybody could adequately describe the money before handing it over to them.

Course, if we were talking about a suitcase full of £50 notes it'd be a different story.
You wouldn't see me for dust!

I wouldn't, but then I don't need the money. If I was poor or homeless or had kids that need feeding then I would no doubt think differently.

Yes, with the proviso that it's from a bank, who deserve to be ripped off, and not an ordinary person.

As I'm otherwise well off, I'd then give it straight to charity.
