My favourites are:

Alannah Myles - Black Velvet

Paula Abdul - Opposites Attract

Kylie Minogue - Better The Devil You Know

Madonna - Hanky Panky (knock it as much as you like, because it's supposedly a 'novelty' due to the 'spanky' factor, but the production is fantastic as are Madge's vocals )

DNA & Suzanne Vega - Tom's Diner

Kim Appleby - Don't Worry

I think with the benefit of hindsight, Kylie's BTDYK should have been a number one. What kept it at bay?

Justify My Love without a shadow of a doubt - a classic and I have all the remixes.

Am I in them?
Tell me your fears
Are you scared?

Adamski - Killer kept Kylie's BTDYK off the number 1 spot

From that list i'd say Justify My Love (one of her best), Hanky Panky, Better the Devil You Know and Love Shack.

I also love Kyiles 'Confide in Me' and Steps 'One for Sorrow'. Both criminally kept from #1

Better The Devil You Know by some distance. SAW finest hour (just beating 'What Do I Have To Do') and it launched Kylie post-perm, when her hotness acheived super-nova status.

Or Dee-Lite, just cos it's a fantastic track.

Love this year....my last year at Junior school and starting secondary school....so all these songs I remember being in the chart....like pretty much all of them bar Status Quo.

If I had to choose it would be between Groove Is In The Heart or Better The Devil You Know (Kylie's best song)

(Don't Worry, Love Shack, Justify My Love, Nessum Dorma, Opposites Attract, Black Velvet....on another day could have been my reply)

There were some great No.1. singles this year (Dub Be Good To Me, Nothing Compares 2 U, The Power, Killer, World In Motion etc.)....plus others that didn't make the top 2 like Hold On by Wilson Phillips, U Can't Touch This by MC Hammer, Praying For Time by George Michael and Enjoy The Silence by Depeche Mode.

Your the same age as me then as I also left primary school & started secondary school this year as well.

I remember everyone one of these songs except for the Status Quo one as for some reason I have absolutely no recollection of this song (or part 2) ever being in the charts. But looking at the YouTube clip it looks like it was a kind of Jive Bunny style song with lots of different songs mixed together.

My favourite out of the list is Dirty Cash, Better The Devil You Know and Opposites Attract (but mainly for the video).

Guess I'll go for Dee-Lite, though due to my allegiance with The B52's I guess I should have gone for Love Shack and probably would have had it not being hijacked by the masses and turned into a novelty song.

lol I used to like that paula abdul song when I was a kid. the technotronic track holds some nostalgia for me.

in retrospect now I think I will have to go for 'groove is in the heart'
