Paint It Black is better than Satisfaction...

...in my opinion, and is the Stones' best song. The lyrics are actually about something, a state of mind.

Really couldn't give a toss about lyrics, never have. However I agree it is a MUCH better song. Also like The Modettes version from around 1980 during the brilliant Ska period.

Under my thumb was my favourite... just seemed so catchy.

LOVE that song.

I actually agree about paint it black. I think get off my cloud is my favourite stones song though (although my favourites change a lot)

I agree it is better.

Why people chunk off about the riff when it's pretty much identical to Jumpin' Jack Flash is beyond me.

Satisfaction, Paint It Black, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Gimme Shelter, You Can't Always Get What You Want, It's Only Rock and Roll, Angie, Under My Thumb, Honky Tonk Woman, Wild Horses, Sympathy For The Devil, Ruby Tuesday, Start Me Up, Brown Sugar, Miss You, Shattered, Loving Cup, Happy, Street Fighting Man, Beast Of Burden etc

So many brilliant songs I couldn't possibly pick a favourite.

Agree with the OP - Paint It Black is a much better song and definitely one of their best. Satisfaction has that great riff - but otherwise not a great song. And I believe I'm right in saying that Keith in particular never really cared for Satisfaction as a song...

Lee Mead singing Paint It Black was one of the reasons he won "Any Dream Will Do". That and the fact that he was far and away the best!

My favourite Rolling Stones songs are (Have you seen your mother baby) Standing in the shadows and Emotional Rescue.

Tumbling Dice and She's A Rainbow are great songs too.

I prefer "Paint It Black", but both are tremendous tracks. There are very few tracks by the Stones from that era that are not tremendous (imo).

Sympathy for the Devil is probably my favourite.

And Satisfaction's lyrics weren't 'about something'? How about sexual frustration? It also introduced the sound of fuzz guitar. Otis Redding covered it so he probably was impressed by the song too. Paint It Black was the Stones obvious attempt to emulate the Beatles doing Eastern sounds hence the inclusion of sitar. They were jumping on the bandwagon there. Although the song is ok, it was never a classic, and well below their best. Gimme Shelter, Sympathy For The Devil, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Waiting On A Friend are all superior classic Stones songs.

Practically everything they did was brilliant.
