Well that outburst kind of proves the point.

I'm playing the game too, generalising and insulting just like others previously in the thread.

I think the paper is hyporcritical scum and I make no apology. I know plenty of people that read it, many are friends but it does not mean i think any more of the paper just because a certain amount of decent people read it.

Thats fine, I have no problem at all what you feel about the paper, it's the comments that also automatically lump all Sun readers in the same bracket, I am not scum just because I read a certain publication.

Disrespectful? No

Embarrassing? Yes!

I hate the dumb ass sun and it's ridiculously forced lad culture, it gives the UK the kind of image I'd rather the French didn't see.

Just in case it was my comment which upset you, I have changed it to make it clearer. I meant it is a hooligan as a newspaper, not that anyone who reads it is a hooligan. I used to read it myself. My dad used to read it to, and I quite like him.

Come on guys do I have to spell it out, my slightly over the top post was a deliberate attempt to generalise and insult (not a very good one I admit) just like some of the posts insulted all Sun readers, like I said to Ladymoanalot, I have no problem if you hate the Sun but dont hate all of it's readers just because they read it.

Back on topic, i dont think it's disrespectfull, tabloids do this sort of stuff all of the time, if the French beat us we can expect some back big time, it's all good fun.

Meh. No big deal really. Not the first foreign flag seen on the tower either...

I know its all for the football and i have no problem with supporting England, but i think it is actually quite rude and disrespectful towards the French to go into their capital and project our flag on their national landmarks.

If the French came over here and done it in London to any of our landmarks, i highly doubt we would find it amusing and The Sun would probably go off their rocker!
Yes I do think it's disrespectful, also immature & pathetic, & quite frankly I'm embarassed.

Indeed, how dare the editor of The Sun make me look like a **** for being English - I did not give them permission, if I was to see a French person today I would feel the need to apologise.

But it's not really like Buckingham Palace or Big Ben. The Arc de Triomphe houses the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the eternal flame memorial to the unidentified dead of WWI and WWII.

It's more like a French newspaper doing the same to the Cenotaph.

It was a rather immature and pathetic stunt which there really was no need for. It wasn't friendly banter between football fans, it was insulting to the people of Paris most of whom presumably aren't obsessed with football.

Glad I'm not the only one that thought it was disrespectful. Like others have said if anyone did this to one of our memorials the Sun would be calling for blood.

It's got the The Unknown Soldier tomb underneath. So to me it's pretty much the same thing. Utterly distasteful.

Stunts like this do nothing to help the UK's image.
