Another Brit who gets condemnation rather than praise, so depressing.

I'm delighted for James, from what I've read he is excellent in One Man Two Guvnors, a Tony award is pretty much up there when it comes to awards.

What impressed me about Corden was that he admitted he was becoming a nightmare, not many celebs do that. Since he's become a dad he seems to have mellowed, his acceptance speech is proof of that - he seems very contented.

I only saw Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Death Of A Salesman. It was brilliant.

Like i said before he'll never act better than the 4 of them. End of story.

But have you seen JC in One Man One Guvnor? How can you argue with the decisions of the judges - I would imagine they are more qualified than any of us to decide who gets the honours

Yes, Chip, I read his autobiography and he admitted he was a bit of an arse for a time and spoke very candidly about how his parents helped him to sort himself out - glad he's come out the other side and settled down

Eh?

An Oscar is a body of work award now? Not for a single role in a single film?

So when Colin Firth won an Oscar for The King's Speech they were actually taking St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold into account?

Love him as Smithy, think he is awful as a presenter.

Good for him winning a Tony.

I found it refreshing, he was only blaming himself and no one else - a very rare occurrence in the self centred world of celebrity

Awards dinner presenter, talk show presenter or just general TV presenter? I think he works really well on A League of Their Own.

Granted they only seem to get through about three questions in an hour...

people forget james cordon is an actor, who happens to be very talented, he was brilliant in fat friends and doctor who,

i think the surprise comes from people who no him from gavin and stacey, he co wrote this with ruth jones and smithy, is it seems from james shows such as league of there own etc that he plays it very much like himself,

however i say well done to him, its not easy to win a tony and i think its great news for British talent,

General all round presenter, I think acting is his thing.

I remember Fat Friends, he was great in that - and it starred Ruth Jones and Alison Steadman. Wish they'd repeat it.

To be fair, I don't think someone is automatically worthy of praise and adoration just for being a Brit who has done well.

Going by the amount of positive replies here, I don't think the "build 'em up, knock 'em down" attitude is nearly as omnipresent as some want to believe.

I saw him in this play in Edinburgh when it was on tour, both he and the production were excellent.

Well done him.

I saw the play in Manchester and he was excellent, as others have said he is a very talented actor I remember seeing him as Jamie in Fat Friends and remembered thinking "now this lad is talented"

Love him or loathe him the man is a talented actor and clearly the judges of the Tony awards agree! Congratulations James

I'd never been a fan of Corden... until I saw One Man Two Guvnors on Broadway around this time last month. Still won't say I'm a fan of his but I have newfound admiration for him as he was surprisingly excellent in it. The play was great - better than I expected - but what surprised me the most was how well the American audience responded to the very British humour; they were roaring in their seats and gave the play a standing ovation at the end. One to catch if you're in New York, and don't bother with the expensive tickets - Music Box is such a small theatre that you'll get a good view regardless of where you sit.

World gone mad.

Don't care what anybody says NO WAY he will ever act for one freakin' second better then those 4 greats.

He must know where some bodies are buried or something.
I only saw previews of his performance. But to win against those actors is a travesty. He wasn't that special in the previews I saw.

This comment sums it up for me, someone who has actually seen Corden in the play, and saw how he was received by the American audience.

Unlike the comments from people who think they are theatre critics

I only ever liked him in Fat Friends, I thought he became unbearably smug after that

I don't mind him too much.

I haven't seen the play, but I've heard good things about him in it and I'm not one to judge so congratulations James.

Jealous Much?

James Corden is a good actor who had a period of being popular/over-rated to some people... but his stage work is fantastic.

He wasn't 'a bit of an arse' though - he was a total COCK.

And it wasn't for a time - it was and is for a long time.

How on earth people buy his pathetic, 'I know I was a shit but now I've got millions and I'm not any more' is beyond me. He remains a smug, self-satisfied nasty little man. He just pretends to be 'quite nice really'.

Don't fall for it.

Congratulations and well done to him on his award.
let me get this right, he still needs reminding that he is part of a partnership despite the fact that he has a kid with her? Lovely bloke.

Astonishing..... clearly the Awards Committee developed extreme sympathy and pity for James Corden who has yet to walk the walk, let alone talk the talk.
