Now it's us now it's we
(I used to say "I is me")
(now it's us now it's we)

Congratulations and well done to him on his award.
Which are the very lyrics he used for Dawn and Pete's Sutcliffe's wedding renewal vows in Gavin and Stacey. At least he's consistent.

I think he is a talented writer and actor, even though he comes across as a it bit a twerp when you see him interviewed. Still, though, it's not an award for not being a twerp, so even if he is one, it makes no odds - it's an award for acting, so well done to him.

I'm not entirely sure what affect his personality has on his performance in this role... Well done James (and all of his fellow winners and nominees)!

No, I don't think you've got that right at all.

I don't think that was what he was saying and would suggest that you are allowing your obvious dislike of the man to show through and flavour your reading of that quote.

I would say that when he says "she makes me say us instead of I" he means that where once he automatically spoke only of himself he now automatically speaks as a couple. Similarly, where he once only thought of "me" he now thinks in terms of "we". Not that she has to somehow make him use the plural.

Other very common examples of this turn of phrase would include "she makes me a better person" and "she makes me so happy". In the phrase "she makes me so happy" no one would suggest that a woman was standing by with a cattle prod forcing a man to be happy...would they?

I'm not keen on his previous stuff, but sometimes a part comes along that matches the actor so well they turn out a brilliant performance, this is probably the one for Corden.

How on earth people buy his pathetic, 'I know I was a shit but now I've got millions and I'm not any more' is beyond me. He remains a smug, self-satisfied nasty little man. He just pretends to be 'quite nice really'.

Don't fall for it.

And you sound a bundle of joy Hazel

This. Spot on. If you watch his acceptance speech everyone was happy for him. Even Hoffman enjoyed Corden's moment.

He was on Radio 4's Desert Island Discs a while ago and siad how he had been caught up and pulled along in the celeb lifestyle (presumably with people saying how great he was etc) and that after a while he realised it.

Not surprising happens to many in that situation but his was more public than most.

A lot wild-boy actors and rockstars when in their 40s etc look back and apologise to all they were idiots around.

Corden is a good actor - not followed a lot of his stuff but what I have seen he is good in it.

He started on the stage and has got back on to it. And as he has won this award in the US it was without any of the stuff that follows him around in the UK (as can be seen on this thread).

He's done very well for himself, not something to sneer at. Well done to him.

Does anybody remember a Boyband spoof documentary on T4 that he appeared in years back? He was the 'fat one' that couldnt dance, remember it was quite amusing.

I couldn't possibly bear to watch a speech from him any more. He would have been using his pathetic pretend voice the he always uses when he is staying stuff that he is making up. It is such an obvious sign of insincerity that I am astounded that everyone doesn't spot it.

He certainly is. What's more, he doesn't get any better with age.

Out of interest, do you know him personally? (That's a genuine question by the way)

I do know someone who worked with him about 4 years ago. She said he was 'challenging'. Who knows, maybe he has changed.

I'm afraid he's just one of those celebs that makes me switch off. We all have them. He joins my illustrious list that includes Kris Marshall and James Nesbitt.

Did he nick your Jelly Babies or your first girlfriend when you were at school together or something?

Even an arse in real life can be a brilliant actor. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive. I think after 10 minutes in his company I'd probably make my excuses but they don't hand out Tonys like smarties and, rule of thumb, you have to do something special to get one. Well done to him. Also, it's a shame if we've become so cynical that we can't accept that most people do change as they grow up.

Indeed, and big enough to admit it too.

There are plenty of celebs/actors who continuing being idiots because the showbiz culture allows them too...it's a bigger thin to stop...look at yourself...or have someone else tap you on the shoulder and you realise you have become someone who you don;t think is doing the right things.
