Vodafone launches EuroTraveller

For just an extra £3 a day, you can use your UK price plan in Europe.
What’s included?
Standard voice calls using your minutes.
Standard texts using your allowance.
Standard data using your allowance.

Not on Vodafone myself, but I like the offer, just because of the being able to use data. Although I'm still trying to find the catch regarding data
Like with Passport before, they came up with a really good idea.

One thing I can't find is what happens if you have got unlimited text messages? Are you really going to have unlimited text messages abroad?

This sounds like the best deal for roaming at the moment.

Not really a surprise though, given how many networks Vodafone owns.

I don't see why not.

this is not good value for money. it's a response to the euro legislation cutting their profits. they will have worked out at what level they can maximise their revenue again. the networks continue to rape people travelling abroad. heaven help that you want to travel outside europe.

Hope they don't scrap vodafone passport as if you get under 4 call in a day then the new system is a price rise !

It's the cheapest roaming deal available, and while the roaming prices are still inflated, it's a better deal than not opting in.

It sounds like a fantastic deal for Vodafone customers. As a non Vodafone customer i can only hope Three may follow suit with this in future.

Their data traveller add on is better value IMO. £10 for a month gives you 25mb of EU data a day, and 10 text messages.

**EDIT**

This appears to REPLACE Vodafone Data Traveller. Not good news for me. My bill will rise from £10 a month + 11p to receive calls to £84 a month.

Pretty sure if you already have it, you can keep it. Vodafone Passport is still on my account as well.

Vodafone Data Traveller is something I switch on for when I need it, rather than keep all year round. Passport I toggle on and off because if you make lots of short calls (less than 7 mins), it can get very expensive, whereas for long calls it can be an absolute bargain.

I'd love to know what the technical reason is why travellers should be charged through the nose for going abroad with their phone, especially when Vodafone is present in the majority of European countries.

The weirdest one is Turkey - Vodafone 100% own Vodafone Turkey, yet charge UK roaming customers £1.30 a minute to receive a call, £1.65 to make a call, £3 a MB and 35p a text!

You'd think they'd use their international brand presence to attract customers, not scare them off. Talk about missing a USP.

Nice to see roaming in the EU actually become affordable (kind of.... ok not really....) I'd still like to see actual companies that own networks worldwide provide a no cost roaming service like Three used to do with Three like home.

Three are launching euro pass this month as well which is similar to what vodafone have just done but it's £5 a day for unlimited data access and roaming.

Blimey three are late to the party on that one aren't they? An improvement on £1.28 per MB though. I take it this is EU only?

Three like home was brilliant. To be able, 4 years ago, to use internet and video calling from Austria seemed like the future. Then inexplicably, they scrapped it, and became the lepers of International roaming

Agreed, it's weird how 3 Italy and others still do it yet the UK side stopped. And i also agree with your comment about how Three are late yet again. Although they've been a bit faster with other things recently.

My bro, end of the month apparently.

I'm still with the whole local prepaid sim card option though. Roaming is still ridiculously expensive. Even with all these 'cheap' add ons for roaming abroad.

I will happily pay somebody a reasonable flat monthly rate, so that I can just use my phone normally abroad. I don't want to toggle things on and off, have to make a decision over whether it's worth spending £3 for the forthcoming day.

Come on, this is the sort of thing three, and until today Vodafone were really good at. Whichever network can offer me this gets my custom.

The problem that Three has is that they only have a few networks around the world.

Vodafone either owns or part owns a network in most of the major markets (particularly in Europe).

That gives them enough strength in the market to bargain with the other networks. A lot of the time, they can just let their customers roam on another Vodafone network.

Three can't do that.

Three Like Home was dropped because they realised that by charging for roaming, they could make the rates more consistent around the world (by subsidising the countries with Three networks).

it's 3 pound a day mate. Keep in mind it costs them nothing. They will have worked out how much people use their sinner abroad as less than 3 pound a day and so now they'll spend more.

I don't see your point.

Roaming is a rip off, everyone agrees with that, but this is still going to be better value for most people.

Better than what 02 are offering with their travel package - http://www.o2.co.uk/international/o2-travel/pay-monthly

Still probably cheaper to use a local SIM wherever possible.
