Most loved and most hated band in the world. I love them.

Achtung Baby is the best album I've ever listened to. 'One' is my favourite song of all time and they have so many classic songs. Got into them properly during the release of How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, so I was a newbie. I heard Vertigo really loud one day and I was hooked from that point. Loved the Bomb album then listened back to earlier albums and realised it was average in comparison. Albums like Achtung, Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree and Boy are terrific. Seen them live three times since and they are always immense. Loved No Line on the Horizon as well and people who think the band are past their best should listen to Moment of Surrender. Respect the fact too that they still want to make new music and not just tour the greatest hits.

An amazing band. One of the best of all time.

One is probably their nicest song Fizzy. Within a few years it already sounded timeless.

The Rattle & Hum movie primed me, Achtung Baby blew me away and still does. They then lost me until the Elevation live DVD where I rediscovered just how great Bono and Edge are as performers, supported well by casual Adam and intense LMJ. They've now lost my interest again although their films and albums sit in my music collection and I'm hopeful at some point I will click with what they are doing. I feel for them in the recent iTunes debacle. How were they to know how much resentment might be caused by tweaking the iTunes music collections of a generation unbothered about looking a gift horse in the mouth?

[BIB] True.

People who hate U2 usually do so because of the group's political stance. These people don't accept that U2 can only ever be a vehicle for change, not change itself.

U2 create music as though they were still looking for a record deal. The hunger and dedication is inspiring, given that song for song they could compete with any group in history.

I personally think U2 is engaged in a private numbers war with the Rolling Stones.

I'm going to both Glasgow gigs in November.I can't wait

I started listening to U2 in my 19th year and here I am at 50 and U2 are still going strong
The bond between Bono, Edge, Adam & Larry is unbreakable and they still have the drive and passion for writing and performing. They're a class act and one of the most successful bands in history.

Love, love, love U2!

I love 90s U2 and early U2. If I had to compile a Best Of CD off the top of my head for me to listen to now it would be different from most people's and would omit a lot of their bigger hits. Some of them I've tired of over time through over-exposure, and I think I prefer Bono at his darkest and most cynical too or when his lyrics reflected that (in my opinion 90s U2).

The Fly
Trash, Trampoline And The Party Girl
Lemon
Out Of Control
Zooropa
Acrobat
The Unforgettable Fire
Do You Feel Loved?
BabyFace
Ultraviolet
Gone
Discotheque
Love Is Blindness

That's today's effort anyway.

What like suggesting the Irish government gave more of its own peoples tax money to aid projects whilst off shoring their own funds that could have beeen part of that irish cash that sort of thing.

The hypocriscy of Bono knows no bounds.

This comment is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.
Ireland has a debt of 214bn euros. Even if U2 were to allow the government
to take (not tax) every penny they had. It wouldn't be enough to pay a month's
interest payment on the national debt.

You also ignore the fact U2 has businesses in Ireland, which employ people and are taxed accordingly.

If being taxed was going to solve anything we would all ask to be taxed more.

How about it Richard1960, how much more tax are you willing to pay?
Or better yet let the government come up with a random number.

I pay enough thanks and have never told anybody else to pay more, i never did say U2 could provide the solution to the irish tax situation.

What i did say however is Bono told the irish government to give more of its cash in aid whilst off shoring his own cash.

But when Bono's band U2 perform at Glastonbury later this month, protesters are planning to accuse them of avoiding taxes which could have helped exactly the sort of people the singer cares about so dearly.

The Irish government changed the tax laws which meant U2 would be paying more money in taxes. As the Edge is quoted as saying in that link "Of course we want to be tax-efficient – who doesn't?"

And that's the point, who wouldn't do as they have done if put in their position?

I thought this comment in the comment section was succinct.

That's just amazing. A group protesting, demanding their government take and waste vast sums of money from someone else. If this is what passes for "intelligence" in Ireland, no wonder the country is in the dumps. There is no virtue in the government having vast sums of money. There is no virtue in demanding the government rob someone else. There is virtue in giving of your own money and time and efforts to help a fellow man. Instead of spending money protesting, why don't they adopt poor families, teach them how to not be poor anymore, and in so doing, make a REAL difference, not in just thier own shallow and wasted lives, but in other people's as well. THAT would inspire, THAT would lead. That would have virtue earn true admiration. THAT is the true meaning of ALTRUISM

The whining protesters never put themselves out and commit themselves to helping others over the long term.Bono has been helping combat poverty in Africa since before Live Aid and before he was really well known worldwide. He and his wife have both spent most of their adult life helping others.I think Bono is an incredible man.

BTW, whenever U2 play concerts in Dublin the tax man rubs his hands in glee---airports, buses, trains, ferries, hotels, hostels, restaurants, bars, museums, pubs & take-aways all benefit

Is the whole set U2 performed at the iheartradio event in Vegas recently online anywhere to view, please? I see there are a few recordings of individual songs from it on YouTube but I'd like to be able to watch their whole performance, professionally recorded. It MUST be viewable somewhere, surely?!
