Are those who got tickets thick or what. Some turned up with drugs and knives.

Could also be strong language. Most of the acts aren't really radio friendly

Eh? It's a Radio 1 Event, how can they not be able to play every live song?!

Disclaimers for bad language were given before each live set.

Not necessarily, as clearly stated on the Moyles/Mills show, R1 didn't have the rights to air every single song during Ed Sheeran's set live, so clearly when booking the artists, you're not just paying the fee to get them to peform live, there's also broadcasting and repeat fees to consider.

Absolute Radio have had similar issues with the IOW festival this weekend. Sky Arts have the television rights though.

Yes, someone complained about the Black Eyed Peas' use of strong language to Ofcom last year, and it got cleared because of the disclaimers and apologies made throughout the set by Hew Stephens. But, it's the sort of thing the Daily Mail would pick up on and I imagine the Beeb don't want to give them a field day. Somewhat surprised to discovered a disclaimer about Jay-Z's set even though it was on at 9:50 PM, way after the watershed.

(This is probably a coincidence, but I did notice they stopped the live broadcast of Ed Sheeran right before he played a song with frequent strong language in it)

They don't pay for broadcast rights, they just ask permission. I believe it was a new song at the start of Ed Sheeran's set, which is why they weren't allowed to broadcast it. I'm amazed they got permission for Guetta's set though, he generally only says yes to French stations (he is a headliner though, so it was probably a condition of his contract)

I asked Absolute regarding Bruce Springsteen's headliner tonight in the week and they replied that they were in negotiations to air that set live.

Maybe they didn't mean monetary negotiations, perhaps they're only allowed partial rights or something weird like that.

Were they editting live sets for BBC3, they appear to have dipped sound on Nicki Minaj's Superbass

I don't know whether I'm the only one here, but I find the whole Hackney Weekend really underwhelming. I don't know what it is, I've always loved the 'Big Weekends' but this year I've been really uninterested in it. The line ups good, but maybe its the fact that we've know its going to be in Hackney for a long while and its taken the surprise of finding out 'where it will be this year' and also there was the Jubilee in London, the Olympics which will be in London and its all a bit too London centric and alienating for those up north. Don't really know what it is but I'm quite disappointed this year.

The Chart Show started at 5:30 today, even thought it was originally pencilled in for 6-7.

Considering the event is in Hackney this year, the yearly weekend jolly out was always going to be different considering most of the target audience wouldn't be seen dead listening to Radio 1.

Taking away the work the BBC have done with young people in Hackney before the event, it does seem a bit Camden chic than local youths attending the event which is a shame considering the booking of the headline artists.

Incidentally for an area where Jungle/Drum 'n' Bass was born through the producers and the pirate stations of the time based on the tower blocks, the genre is poorly reflected at this event, yet they found a slot for Ed Sheeran!

Hackney weekend for Radio 1 was supposed to be the platform for the Olympics. Most of the music artists wouldn't give a toss as they are there to promote themselves and obviously earning some money.

Yes, Vernon can work the desk - check the webcam next weekend during his normal Saturday show, when everyone's back at Yalding and you'll see!

The OB desk is one that they used to use during the Radio 1 roadshows during the 80s! - They've used it in the past couple of years in the run up to the Big Weekends in Carlisle and Preston when Moyles and Greg did their shows from houses in the towns in the run up to the weekend and Moyles also used it during his show tour he did a couple of years ago.

It's obviously been modifiied quite a bit, as I'm sure during the 80s, it would have been used with record players and sonifex carts, whereas now, by the looks of what I could see on the cams over this weekend, it now has three cd player channels, the instant cart players on 4 channels and three mic channels!

Some of the presenters have had some difficulties using the desk and finding out that its from the 80s, it's not surprising that Scott and Reggie have made a few mistakes !!

Eh? Radio 1's Big Weekend is about bringing the big artists to areas underserved by new music.

Hackney is in an area of social deprivation (despite the gentrification of nearby areas) and suffers from youth unemployment, despite the Olympics coming to nearby Stratford.

While I doubt R1 would turn up in Hackney if it wasn't an Olympic year, the social aspect is higher than the Olympic Games.

Scott Mills really is fantastic at interviewing the music stars. Such a funny interview with B.O.B just now.

Yes, I remember when there was the farcical situation of everybody in the crowds who saw Alicia Keys play at a Big Weekend a few years back raving about how incredible she was, and yet the TV and Radio coverage presenters had to play it down because they were only allowed to broadcast two songs!! Ridiculous.

Chris and Scott are lightyears ahead of any other radio 1 djs. They are all so serious and almost robotic!

Really tiring of this now and it's only Tuesday, we've got days of this to come.

Every flippin' time I tried the radio yesterday it was another "great performance" from the weekend.

some of those acts really should have stuck to miming.

I heard Rihanna's set for the first time today.

She really can't hit those high notes live. :P

I had to turn over this afternoon. it was absolute overkill.

Coming up next - three live songs from Plan B? *switch*

(To be fair though, I'm not target audience. Maybe they all love it).

Please tell me the last hour of Moyles show isn't being devoted to it, as sometimes happens.

I'll be honest, I'm quite liking the highlights as I didn't hear much of it over the weekend.
So long as they dont repeat each artist too often, then all should be well and maybe by Friday they should be wrapping the repeats up and devoting it to the website.

Worth remembering that this will have cost a fortune with a lot of effort, so they (the BBC) will be screwing every last drop out of this they can.

The Plan B set was another I have not heard yet untill this afternoon and I thought it was really good. Shame I could not say the same for Sean Paul, which was obvious as it's poor stage conversion to radio was also commented on by Scott Mills.

I have also noticed a distinct difference in audio quality between one act and another.
For example Rizzle Kicks set sounds awesome, where as the likes of Jay'Z audio comes across as if they have stuck a mic infront of the speakers and recorded it straight from that. Terrible.
