Best headphones for iPad3?
Franglais
11-06-2012
As I am Deaf (with a little bit of hearing) I've tried a few headphones plugged into my iPad3 but can hardly hear anything.

Can anybody recommend a good pair of headphones that allows, possibly, higher than normal volume yet does not distort?

Thanks in advance.

The headphones won't have that much effect on the volume. You may find models with different sensitivities but by far the greater determining factor is the power output of the amplifier driving the headphones.

EU regulations limit the maximum volume devices sold for use within the EU can achieve. So it is entirely possible that even the most sensitive headphones won't give you the volume you require. I'm not sure if there is any way to defeat the EU volume limit on an iPad. I have heard of ways and means of hacking some devices to get round it.

It might not be the best solution but short of being able to defeat the limit you might have to add external amplification. A bit clunky and for portable use you would need to find a battery powered amplifier.

My tablet has pretty low volume output so I bought one of these,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ls_o01_s00_i00

It's the size of a current iPod nano and it works well.

You might also want to consider a pair of Bose QC15 noise cancelling headphones - I treated myself to a pair when I was in the US last month, they were great on the plane. They're £279 here but $299 in the US.

But were 20% off HERE in Curry's 2 weeks ago!

I am annoyed with myself at missing that and hope it will come back soon.

this is from memory so could (and is most likely) wrong.

Jailbreaking may be a option for increasing the max volume.

Franglais, do you wear a hearing aid? I think it is possibly to buy 'earphone' that plug into a headphone socket, and then create a hearingaid loop.
