Ordered a film off Amazon and unfortunately it came on this format where you can only play it on a PSP . they are a new technique for Sony to stop piracy. Anyone got one of these yet? going to try and sell the film

its in a protective shell type thing, the smallest dvd ever

I think you are confused.

The disc format for the PSP is UMD and has been since the device launched. A decent, but not spectacular number of UMD movies were released on the format but Sony never claimed they would ever play on any DVD player, the format was specifically for the PSP. It is not, and never was, a way for Sony to stop piracy and the same films were released on DVD too. In fact if you look at the case of any UMD disc it quite clearly has the PSP logo on the top right.

It's NOT any kind of replacement for DVD and never has been. I am quite sure the listing would have stated that you were buying a UMD disc. A quick look at Amazon shows some buyers listing them as UMD[DVD] and doesn't mentioned that the disc is only playable on a PSP, so I can see why, if you don't know about UMD discs, why you might have been a tad confused by the listing. If I were you I'd contact the seller for a refund.

sorry UMD . I picked what I thought was the cheapest price for the dvd, but had never heard of this UMD. kept the invoice and try and get a refund, when on Amazon it just says UMD but nothing about PSP
