Kitten/cat food

Hi all,
I have a kitten who is about 8-9 month old when we adopted him from RSPCA they said he was on whiskers kitten which we have bought him , I also have a 14yr old who normally eats felix senior or adult (depending on stock of shops!) now they have each have their own bowl but the kitten is refusing to each his own food ! He keeps either pushing my older cat out the way or he just stares at the bowl ! I have tried tricking him by putting a treat in his food like dreamies or even a little bit of the felix with his!
As soon as he finishes treat or felix he starts meowing for food

My main question is at his age is he too young really for adult food ? Has this happened to you?

Thanks

I fed my cat cat food after about a year and she was fine (in fact she lived to be over 20!). I also used to feed her small prawns sometimes (sounds expensive but those small basic prawns at the supermarket are quite cheap) and also tuna. I would think if your cat is wanting to eat adult cat food it will be OK but i am sure someone will come on here and let you know for sure.

Spoke to my friend last night, he has always had cats from kittens and has gave them adult food from the age of yours and had no problems so i think he will be fine.

I'll be shot down for this no doubt but all the kittens we've had and many from birth as soon as they've begun to be weened they've eaten adult food. Having 5 cats and however many kittens at the time it's almost near impossible to separate what food they eat. Our last lot of kittens even dived into the semi-empty dog food bowl to lick the remains. They've all gone on to be healthy cats with no problems.

Might be an idea to feed the cats in two separate rooms.
Sounds like the Kitten wants to be a big boy and eat like the grown ups do. When I got my cat as a kitten he always wanted to eat my dogs food when she was eating. He loved doing the same things she did.

Thanks all for you replies I tried feeding them in different rooms but they refused to eat lol They both seem happy eating food together and both seem to be ok with the food.

I have had cats all my life but normally when this age happens with them my parents were the ones to sort it out lol I have loads of kitten food left over so will donate it to the local RSPCA centre as that's where I got my kitten from ! I'm sure there will be kittens less fussy there lol
