I know cost isnt the important thing but my 18 year old cat really isnt well. We are going to get her to the vets but she keeps giving me this look as if to say ive had enough now. Does anyone know what the average price of putting a cat to sleep is.

When I had my dog put to sleep it came to around £70. That was for putting her to sleep and the cremation costs.

I paid £45 last year for my dog, small breed, sleep and cremation.

You can ring the vet and ask what they charge.

See if you have a private pet crematorium within reach. They may be cheaper than your vet for after the pts. I paid about £30 for my old cat at the vets last December, then more at the crem.

When I read some of the replies on threads like these it makes me realise how much more vets in London charge I paid nearly £200 to have my cat put to sleep, individually cremated and her ashes returned to me in a pretty wooden casket.

I think I was charged more for her euthanasia because the vet needed to sedate her first, her veins were so poor after repeated drips during the preceding days and weeks and he knew he was going to struggle to access a vein. As it was he missed the vein and she didn't die - he returned after about 10-15 minutes (I was left with Tabitha and a friend of mine) expecting to see a dead cat but she was still breathing, he needed to repeat the procedure . I didn't complain because Tabitha was well sedated and it actually gave me longer with her to say my goodbyes. I was evidently still charged for both doses!

I think my vet just charges standard London prices because my uncle and cousin have had their cats put to sleep over the past few years, at different vets, and they were also charged a fair amount, at least £70 just for the euthanasia, they chose not to have their cats' ashes returned to them but that would have added a fair bit to the bill. I couldn't not have my Tabitha returned to me

Bloody hell, I only paid £200 to the vet when I had to have a horse put down last year. That included emergency call out, sedation, rescuing hi. From the fence he was caught in and his euthanasia . Saying that my horses vaccinations and dental treatments are a hell of a lot cheaper than my dogs and cats.
