Why do you think Cheryl's solo career took off & Victoria Beckhams didn't?

Both seem similar to me in alot of ways

Both from girlbands
Both married a footballer
Both have rather weak voices

I just always associate them with each other for some reason, not sure why. Obviously Cheryl had the advantage of being on The X Factor and doesn't appear as moody as Victoria.

Because Cheryl actually has an ok singing voice, Victoria's voice is devoid of any emotion and sounds monotone most of the time, plus her songs were terrible.
Also Cheryl has the advantage of being quite a capable dancer. Has catchy songs and knows the right people.

Cheryl is a PR Machine while Victoria isn't. Both are talentless voids who do not deserve their success.

I have heard Victoria singing live in Spice Girls tour videos and she is probaly no worse than Cheryl. Her dancing is also not that shabby either.

Lead single - Fight For This Love was a great way to launch her career. Promise This was just OK but once you've got your foot in the door and got the momentum going it's always easier to get away with a weaker record. Call My Name is really good as well, IMHO. Although that does owe more to Calvin Harris than Cheryl!

Being in the papers and magazines a lot won't actually sell records on its own. I'm sure if Victoria Beckham did Piers Morgan's Life Stories you'd see a similar bump in ratings and we know she sells papers (and certainly did 10 years ago) like Cheryl Cole. But it never translated to great success for her. I think Cheryl has had better songs and her performances tend to be better as well (she can, at least, dance well) and that's what has made the difference. Put that together with all the exposure and things can really take off (as they have).

All she ever did was point.

I think the more relevant question is why Geri's solo career took off and not Posh's tbh - both came from the same band and were as popular as the other.

Geri had the advantage of being the one who left first. She also produced almost identical solo music to that that the group produced so she was on to a winning formula.

It's all about the songs and the likeability factor.

X Factor. It's that simple... Simon Cowell bent over backwards from day one to promote her. Remember in 2007 and only 3 weeks into the live shows and all of a sudden he proclaimed that she was the nation's sweetheart all of a sudden?
Most of the newspapers were scratching their heads at the idiot, but she's all about paying £10,000 per month to her powerful PR company, which is what's keeping her going with the radio stations and some of the Tabloids.

Personally, I think with these manufactured bands it's the first one who gets out there first who is the most successful, Robbie Williams and Cheryl prove this. Mel C and Geri are the most successful solo spice girls and they got in first both releasing their albums in 1999 ahead of the other girls.

And also, Vicyoria also released her solo album last and interest in the Spice Girls had dropped a lot in 2001 while Girls Aloud still seem popular and profitable at this time and Cheryl is seen as the face of the band during their hiatus.

Didn't Emma & Geri both have massive number 1 singles that year though?

Posh may like the limelight to a large extent, but she isn't a publicity whore. We don't know every detail about her kids and she seems surprisingly private despite everything.

Neither is Cheryl. She's promoting her music right now after being out of the spotlight for a year.

My eyesight must be deceiving me then, could have sworn she was tweeting photographs of her and Harper's clothes on Twitter the other day

Her and Beckham don't stop self publicising, they were the first celeb couple to start the magazine bidding wars when they sold their wedding to OK for a 1 million quid.

Brand Beckham anyone?

I don't know much about Victoria Beckham's solo music career to be honest, but I can remember there was huge media speculation when both herself and Kylie were releasing their singles at the same time... Unfortunately she went up against Kylie's "Can't Get You Outta My Head" which ended up being the most played single of the 00's with the highest sales for most of that period... Ouch!!!

I meant more the group as a whole after Forever under performed really.. I don't really know how to describe it apart from the fact Girks Aloud went on a break while at their highest point it makes Cheryl seem even more successful whereas when Victoria released her album she was riding off the back of a relative flop for the spice girls.

Yet her and Beckham's wedding generated massive media attention the year before she released Out Of Your Mind - the Spice Girls may have been on the slide, but her and Becks were everywhere.

VB famously turned down "Can't Get You Outta My Head", because "there wasn't a song there" - double ouch!

As for Geri Halliwell, she was the biggest solo Spice Girl, despite having the least talent, because (paraphrasing from memory from John Niven's musicbiz novel "Kill Your Friends") "Geri would swim a mile through shark-infested HIV-positive sperm just to do a 3-minute phone interview with Radio Leeds..."

I don't think Victorias heart was ever really in it to be honest. She had a few hurdles with record companies and stuff and kinda just gave up. 'This Love / Let Your Head Go' are two of the best songs from any of the solo Spices IMO (bar Mel C who is in a league of her own )

She is clearly much happier with her fashion, and say what you like, but she is clearly very talented in that area. I never understand what she get's so much stick. In interviews and documentaries she always comes across as a really funny girl. It's a shame so many people seem to dislike her
