I agree. TBH I think the remakes are better than the 4 originals

Could never view the remake and prequel close to the original though. More accessible due to the straight laced style, intensity and gore of a modern slasher. Original has lost its impact due to the hype of being banned (very little gore), and it feels art house. Yet it had front, self awareness and creativity the 2003 and 2006 films could only dream of. Basically a comic black horror masquarading as a nightmare. Still very funny while being heart pounding relentless and having a sick subject matter. Major problem with TCM: The Beginning is the crappy generic ending. |

That's actually "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D" ...
I don't know what to make of it, but apparently it has Gunnar Hansen (THE original Leatherface) and Marilyn Burns (The original "final girl") making cameos in it ... Back to the original subject and films and my very humble opinions; The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) = The original and the best. A true classic, both in the genre and as a movie in general. 10/10. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) = A real mis-fire by Tobe Hooper. Played for laughs. Only really interesting for a couple of great performances by Dennis Hopper and Bill Moseley (as "Chop-top"). 4/10 Leatherface : Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 (1990) = Okay-ish update but short on thrills. Nice to see Ken Foree from "Dawn of the Dead" take on the big guy. 6/10. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation ... aka Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1994) = Absolutely appalling! The story is nonsense and it generally stinks. The only reason to see it (if you want) is the early appearance of Renne Zellweger and a mental performance by Matthew McConaughey. 2/10. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) = I've got a lot of respect for this. I think Jessica Biel is great in it and Marcus Nispel does a good job of directing. Plus, it's not played for laughs and R.Lee Ermey is a great addition to the family. One of my fave horror updates, alongside Dawn of the Dead. 8/10. and finally ... The Texas Chainsaw Massacre : The Beginning (2006) = IMHO, not quite as good as the remake or the original, but still a cracking horror fable. Nice to see the development of Leatherface and Ermey's "Sheriff". Plus, it's quite dark and mean-spirited. Very underrated and badly treated by sniffy critics. 7.5/10. Just my thoughts on the films guys ...

Really impressed by the viceral, grainy style of the remake and prequel- hopefully the third instalment will be in the same vein.

Very impressed with both remakes - especially liked the fact the first remake played around with the story, but kept faithful to the original................WARNING SPOILER!!.
. . . . . . The first 2 teens to go to the house died - but not in the remake. I was thinking "surely Jessica won't be the Pam of the remake and end up on the meathook"....and then it was the sexy blonde guy that was hooked! |
