Alternatively, you could also use Overplay.net. Similar to Unblock-us in that they use a "SmartDNS" service.
Overplay works with all UK FTA catchup services, so BBC iPlayer (BBC Sport), ITV, 4oD and channel 5, along with Lovefilm, Netflix etc.
The DNS service also works with Irish channels such as RTE and services in Australia like SBS and ABC as well as TVNZ from (obviously) NZ plus some US services.
DNS services that companies like Overplay or Unblock-US offer have the following advantages over standard VPN's:
* As they don't require a VPN Tunnel, traffic is much faster and limited to your ISP speed and/or connection to foreign networks. This is great for video and allows HD streaming even from the other side of the world, so great if you wish to access far flung television like Oz & NZ.
* Works on a greater variety of devices. Sure, all PC's can setup VPN's, but many of us want to watch TV on a TV, and few TV's have this option. Many though allow you to manually set a DNS server. i.e. if you have say a late model Samsung Smart TV, you have built in Apps for iPlayer & ITV which work internationally via the DNS service.
* Generally cheaper than VPN services, and more reliable than free services.
* You can set the DNS server on your router, so all devices in your home will be able to access UK TV abroad - whether your Smart TV, iPad, Computer, Internet radio etc.
* Unlike a VPN connection, which forces all traffic through the tunnel, these Smart DNS services only check the details required from the TV on demand services - so all normal traffic routes without tunneling (basically, your standard non-TV related internet does not slow down)
