Yes and Yes.

Battery life isn't going to last all day if thats what you want to do. But it'll last about 5 hours which is good if you're on a long journey or need to use it for a while in the morning and then later in the evening.

Because it's a mobile data optimized device i always see faster speeds when compared to my phone. It's good for connecting multiple devices if thats what you need to do. Otherwise a dongle is better. Of course the speed/connection you get will vary depending on whether you have coverage in your area or not so i'd suggest checking that out firs.t

I have one for use when travelling and find it works well and achieves consistently better speeds than my phone (O2). The advantages over a dongle are that up to 3 devices can be connected at once via WiFi and can be placed anywhere in a room to get the best signal.

I use the 1GB PAYG SIMS in mine which cost about £4 each on Amazon marketplace. The only downside is that they expire a month after first use.

Should you need longer usage it can be recharged by a USB external battery pack or, if you are a netbook / laptop user, a USB port.

You just need to remember to carry the right cable.

I have one, Have had it for years and it's absolutely brilliant! Use it on a daily basis! Get a PAYG one and buy pre-paid 3 SIMs from Amazon and eBay. U can get 1GB for like £3 or 3GB for about £9. But yeah it's a great device! Battery life is a bit naf, I get just 5 - 6 hrs out of mine but it's good overall

Mine was £70 back in 2012 - probably same price now. Although buying it then getting pre-paid SIMs for £3 is cheaper than a contract in the longrun and you're not tied in

1GB isn't enough if you plan on using it regularly. It'll be ok if you just browse every now and then + use emails. But you'd probably want at least 5GB or 15GB if you plan on downloading/streaming.

Only get it if you need it though and will use it per month as otherwise a contract is pointless.

PAYG it's £84.99 with 3GB top up included
then £15 top up for every additional 3GB

Contract its 18.99pm with 15GB
Cheaper with 5GB

I currently have a 3 dongle that is 1GB for £5.25 a month

Had it since 2009 so out of contract then offer the Mifi today for £8.24 a month with 1 GB data and No upfront cost for the Mifi

If you're fine with 1GB then thats fine.
Now it just depends if you plan on connecting more than 1 device at the same time (e.g ipad/laptop/desktop) to the Mi-Fi or whether you'd be better off with a dongle for just 1 device.

Might be worth asking if they can do the new 2011 dongle for free on the current price plan that you're on. It's 3 times faster and more reliable that the one you'd have got in 2009.
