As a tip, you also reverse the cover on any of the more recent releases that have the BBFC rating on the spine, to get rid of it and have it fit in with the older releases.

Ditto for the episodes that boast "Special Edition" on the spine (exept or Vengeance on Varos, for some reason).

Well.
I never knew the covers were reversable!
Thanks for the tip off. I've just spent a very happy half an hour reversing loads of covers. Or, utterly wasting my time, as my wife insisted... but i think they all look better now!!

So much for itunes and their drm. The episodes have made it onto video sharing places now.

Yup - plenty of like minded folks here who understand!

I don't know anything about file sharing, but do know that this is inevitable. I know someone who downloaded Day of the Dr in 3D within a couple of hours of broadcast.

I got all of Enemy on Itunes except for Part 3, having owned Lost in Time for many a year.
I'm in two minds whether this or Web of Fear is the best story of the season. Tomb has been a bit of a misfire when returning to it on DVD, and Ice Warriors has lots of good bits but didn't need to be so long. I always loved Fury from the Deep but as good as it is, I have to defer judgement upon it now that it is obvious that recons are nowhere near enough to pass judgement.

Agree that Enemy is far stronger than just the audios had suggested.

Also, I was a wee bit disheartered seeing the full Ice Warriors - the VHS version with the shorter reconstructions made it seem very pacy, but seeing the full six episode thing made it seem rather slow.

Not properly seen Web yet (no iTunes in the Batmannequin household), so I'm very much looking forward to that.

I'm just watching it now and I'm impressed with the acting and general feel of the thing.

It's nice to see Troughton strutting his stuff and Jamie taking a strong role as well.

One downside is that the sets are remarkably tacky. I wouldn't even say cardboard, they look more like plain paper. It's like they had a fire sale on funky wallpaper and just went bananas with it.

Yeah for all of Barry Lett's many qualities he didn't really excel for me as either a producer or a director when it came to set design. But Enemy is one of the more intellectual and character based stories anyway, a winning case of substance over style.

I'm not going to bother getting the DVD for this until the BBC reissue it with special features (which they are clearly going to do at some point in the future in order to make more money out of the fans). The story is pretty expensive on DVD as it is even without any extras!

Steve Roberts of the Restoration Team says they're not going to, Worldwide wanted people to buy it on itunes, and they don't expect people to triple dip.

Just finished the first two eps and im really enjoying it so far.It was a very hard DVD to track down though as places like HMV and Tesco didn't stock it or have it in the charts like all the other releases are usually.I got it from ASDA in the end and the only copy they had right down low at the bottom of the current chart.

Way back on one of the ranking threads I made the point that forming an opinion about a story based on telesnaps and audio was different to watching all of the transmitted episodes. Some posters agreed with me and some didn't.

The two quotes above seem to agree with me.

What about everyone else

Has your opinion on Enemy Of The World shited now that you can watch all 6 episodes compared to just viewing the telesnaps / listening to audio

Or has it stayed the same

I had never seen/listened to the recons/audios, so watching the DVD was my first experience of the story.

Having watched it once, I think it's a fine story, the only thing that irks me a bit (like several other DW serials) is that the plot seems to be spread out very unevenly in terms of pace, over the 6 episodes.
What I mean is, by the end of Part 3, we still have no clue as to how Sal. is producing the disasters (or even IF it really is him, or just some weird coincidence). All we know is that GK and his little group are against Sal, and have roped The Dr into impersonating him, and Jamie & Vic are pretending to work for him. Not much has happened yet, Sal. seems like a nasty guy but what's he up to and why? Then in Part 4 (or is it Part 5) ...wham, it's suddenly 'all go', the underground stuff is introduced etc.
I was half-way through Part 6, looked at the DVD timer and I thought, Wait a moment, there's only 15 minutes of this thing left, and it feels like it's only just building up to the most exciting part. They'll never resolve all the plot threads in the next 15 minutes! ...And indeed it felt like the producers had only suddenly realised that they were in Part 6 and still had to finish the thing! Slow, slow, quick quick quick!

No worries. You would think it would be made obvious seeing as how OCD a lot of fandom is, but no.

You can record direct from your screen via a variety of methods / software. DRM means nothing if you can hear/watch something as it's a piece of cake to record it without anyone ever knowing. It is also perfectly legal, covered by the same rules that govern recording from radio/tv or making backup copies of CD's/DVDs. The only legal issue comes if you then share the resulting files.

Yes! Mrs Chuff and I also remarked on the garish wallpaper! The verandah outside Salamander's lair seems quite small, and there's an awful lot of activity there. We also felt Salamander's compound was very insecure: people seem to come and go as they please, even though a World Leader is in residence.

Shited? How rude!

I thought the story was pretty good when it was on soundtrack CD, and remain convinced of this. It's better than The Ice Warriors (which dunarf drag in places) but, as mentioned above, some of the pacing is a bit uneven and I was often unsure which continent I was in.

It's most definitely a different experience of the story, watching rather than listening, but I have paid a lot of attention to the soundtrack CDs over the years and am looking forward to seeing if there are any real surprises. I am sure that everyone excited about Eveil of the Daleks might be less excited if they had sat through all that capture-escape-capture-escape nonsense that the CD lays bare.

Enemy is a 7/10 story, and it has interested me to see people reappraising it rather than toeing the accepted line of "it's a bit boring with no monsters".

Thanks for that.

When I read the Howe-Stammers-Walker handbooks years back I came to the conclusion that it was unfair to award points to missing stories like Marco Polo, Evil Of The Daleks etc because whilst you can form an opinion looking at telensnaps, listening to something on audio or both it is not the same as watching something and being able to see the sets, the costumes, the expressions and mannerisms etc of the actors and actresses.

And, of course, people's opinions change over time. So, while someone may have seen The Web Of Fear on first transmission and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread it doesn't necessarily follow that they'd still hold that opinion if they watched it on DVD now. How many times have we heard the comment "it hasn't aged well" about a TV porgramme or a film?

But I do appreciate your comment, which I've bolded, about it being a different experience when you watch something rather than listen to it.
That being said, if we are to judge all classic stories on an equal basis then we should stop using telesnaps and audio to form opinions about missing episodes.

I wonder if this story holds the record for the most iterations of 'What are you doing here?' There are six of them, in addition to one 'What are you doing there?'
