Hi,
I've currently got an LG RZ23LZ40 LCD on trial and to be honest the picture quality on it from my sony STB and sony dvd player is pretty rubbish. It's all blocky and looks like jpeg artifacts (like you get when you save a photograph at really low quality).

I know this is down to the broadcast resolution only being around half of what the lcd displays so it doubles up on pixels to fill the screen, however the way it does this is very poor quality - will the quality be better on a different brand of LCD or a smaller LCD, because I can't stand it (but need an lcd due to limited space but haven't got enough space for plasma)?
Obviously HD broadcasts would look good, but that's not going to happen for a while yet.

I went for the LG because I have several of their PC LCD's and they're great.

Any suggestions of other 17"->23" (preferbly 20" - with 2 scart inputs and s-video or composite) LCD's to trial before I decide what to settle on (would be great if you could also provide links to spec. pages)?

Photos of the screen in use from the sony STB:

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Unfortunately on a lot of big screens the quality from set top boxes simply aren't good enough and give you a lot of pixelation and low quality images like jpeg's as you have suggested.

I had major quality problems on my plasma screen of the same kind for quite some time, what you want to do is go through the tv manual or the tv menu and find a DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) setting and pump it up (or turn it on ), it may result and a less sharp picture but adjust until it gives a balance of sharpness and better picture quality. For any high resolution screen DNR is a must for watching current TV broadcasts.

I've crossed this LG off my list of possibles now, and it's heading back to the shop tomorrow. I'll look out for DNR on the next ones I get to trial (this lg dosen't seem to have an option like digital noise reduction).

Think I'll trial the Sony KLV-L23M1 next, what do you think of their LCD's? Any good? (I know their CRTs are, because that's what I have at the moment)
There's no mention of DNR in the specs, however it does have sonys wega engine - which does a similar thing (I think).
