Cannot Open Microsoft Word File - Need to submit this essay tomorrow 10.30am :(

Hey, I really am in a state of panic! I have done a 3,000 word essay and ready to sumbit it tonight but Microsoft word will not let me as it is saying it is a corrupted file. I have tried doing step by step guides from the internet, used recovery programmes, but nothing has worked!

If anyone has any tips ... please please please say!

Is it mostly text? Can you not just try copying the text into a new file?

So you are using MS to submit the actual file? I've not heard of that before.

Are you able to open the file?

Tip No.1 - Always have a backup.

You can try opening the file in Notepad, Wordpad or the free Open Office / Libre Office. Did you check the autorecovery locataion? You should explain exactly what you've already tried, as this will save a lot of time and effort.

Try downloading and using a copy of open office, it worked for me.

Fingers crossed.

For future reference
Make a few copies.
Consider using google docs or other online service
Back up as you go or make a new document each time you revise it (you may prefer v6 to v7 anyway)
Ask for an extension.
