The remake has reminded me that the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is on Film4 at 2300 hrs.

Looking forward to it. Never seen it or the remake.

Just thought I'd let anyone else who wants to watch it know.

In my opinion, the original film was far, far better than the Fincher remake...

As good as Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara were in the americanised film, it didn't "feel" the same as the novels, and the relationship between Lisbeth and Blomkvist didn't really come across as natural as it did in the original.
Also, Lisbeth acts as a bit of a petulant child rather than an evolving strong woman ...

For my money, Noomi Rapace will always be THE perfect portrayal of Lisbeth, and it's great to see her being used and recognised in major hollywood films as a result ...

The follow-ups of "..played with fire" and " ...kicked the hornets nest" are just as good as well..

In other words, watch it if you can ... even if you've seen the Fincher version...

After reading the books, I have come to the conclusion that neither version really gets Lisbeth right; she's a bit more complex a character than both films portray (there is strength, fragility and petulance, as well as other qualities). It's more that one gets some parts of her right, while the other gets other parts right. Maybe a combination of the two would be a more accurate portrayal. Also, the ending of the Swedish film doesn't reflect the tone of the book, which the Fincher film actually does get right. On the whole, I prefer the Swedish version, but it's not perfect and the Fincher film is fairly good, even if a Hollywood remake.

When I Sky +'d it (and thanks to the OP for the heads up on this) the option for series link comes up, which is odd for a movie - so maybe they are showing all three in quick succession.

Well, I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed that. I had absolutely no idea of the plot beyond the two of them investigating a murder. Wasn't expecting the brutal, although not too graphic, rape and torture themes. What an interesting character Lisbet was.

I was quite disappointed by the Swedish version, after all the hype. As an adaptation of the book, it wasn't as deft. They missed what in the US film were key scenes, such as:

the dinner with Martin, where we later learn he had a victim in the cellar at the time, and near the end when the hero accepts Martin's offer of a drink out of politeness, despite suspecting him. Basically Fincher's version of Martin is much more chilling and memorable for me.

On the other hand, as someone else pointed out in another thread, Fincher does get Lisbeth more wrong.

Especially her asking for Blomkist's permission to kill Martin. I guess it was done to show how important their relationship is to her, but it adds to the sense of her being defined by men, which is totally wrong.

The first film of the original trilogy was a good one ,but the other two were pretty meh
