Roy keane

Say what you like about him and as i was at Er in 97 when he was involved in the alfe inge halland incident , so, he not my all time favourite player, but he gives it to you stright, his comments affter andrews interview were spot on , and hit nail on head as well,

btw for those who want to know more about Keane, can i say his Autobigpahy is an excellent read , you might not agree with him but he knows what he is talking about , and he was quite rightly ashamed of last nights performance and Andrews comments

I don't get how watching someone get injured would by itself make you think less of them.

It's like qualifying you don't like Wayne Rooney with the reasoning that you were there when he broke his metatarsal.

I presume they mean the fact that Keane admitted he did it on purpose.

The incident that the OP is referring to is when Keane did his cruciate and Haaland stood over him telling him to stop faking and get up.

97 was when Keane got injured (tore a ligament I think) and Haaland accused him of faking. It was 2001 when Keane attacked Haaland

The 97 incident happened because Keane chaased a long ball missed and aimed a kick at Halland and as he did he twisted his knee it wass his own stupid fault, Halland was telling him that, that was the oirginal incident ,but at the time he didnt go off (keane that is) and nobody thought it was as serious as it seemed , he was then out of football for a year and told Gary kelly at an ROI meeting that he was gonna do Halland next time he saw him

Thats it really

Actually Keane pretty much attacked Halland in 1997 as well. It's just that first time round, he injured himself in the process.

Edit - and back to the actual point of the thread, I agree with ya Robbedin73 - never liked Keane as a player but he's clearly a winner and hates the idea of current RoI players apparently just being happy to be there at a tournament like Euro 2012. Exactly the sort of attitude that any international footballer should have.

Wss in West stand that day and the incident was right in front of me , it was almost as bad as when Cantona jumped in front of the kop in Wilkos last game, but not quite

It's certainly good fun playing 'listen' sweepstake when Keano's in the pundit's chair

That is fine for Roy Keane's fan club members but not for everyone else.

I love how OP manages to mention Leeds in pretty much every post, there's an admirable skill involved there.

Back to the point. Yes Keane's comments were spot on.

Particularly loved it when he said "The Irish don't come out here for a sing-song, they come to see us win football matches", and his trademark "the players aren't as good as they think they are".

LOVE him as a pundit. Second to Gary Neville imo.

Cut the OP some slack too, he's actually saying that despite his loathing for Keane (which is understandable given he is a Leeds fan), he respects him as a pundit. Don't think there's any need to go on the attack really.

You mentioned Elland Road, a former Leeds player and an incident involving Leeds in the opening post. You really throw out the rolleyes at the worst times.

Are they though? I'd say the Irish players are absolutely gutted and shattered to be already out of the tournament (the fans certainly are). They said all along they weren't happy just to make up the numbers and their intention was to get out of the group.

Ah, good old Royston.

Walked out on his country on the eve of a world cup. Returned after McCarthy left because he believed the Ireland set up was now more professional. Cue Brian Kerr's disasterous reign.

Keane..tipped to be Fergie's replacement couldn't cut the mustard at either Sunderland or Ipswich. Now reduced to the roll of renta-ex-player-pundit. Answering stupid questions from Adrian Chilies must really kill him. Mind you this time ten years ago he was just walking his dog....

Sitting with all his medals, a multi millionaire. Obviously sad that he never made it to keyboard warrior status.

He upset alot of people when he walked out during the World Cup. I'm not a "keyboard warrior" I'm just an average paying football supporter who helped make Keane and his generation the multi millionaires they are today.

Obviously the thousands of fans who sang their hearts out last night at the ground wouldn't share the views Keane held on ITV.
