I think Fox are keeping American Dad around as back up in case McFarlane asks to end Family Guy. That and it's a great way of persuading him to stay at the network and to continue producing Family Guy.

best program MacFarlane has ever done-it is top-notch in scripting, animation and voice acting. Yet everytime I see a media piece about MacFarlane, it's all about "Family Guy" with just one or two sentences about AD (and "The Cleveland Show"). Interesting link about shows that have run their creative course here: Quote:

The Simpsons was good IMO until the end of Season 9 (1997-1998) and then after that, it started to go downhill.

actually like AD are true, though? He never seems to discuss it in interviews, and he hasn't been on any of the documentaries for the later AD DVDS (though this could be because he's too busy to do them). That'd be a shame if he did-it's be like Nigel Kneale slagging of his "Quatermass" and "1984" adaptation and praising his terrible "Kinvig" instead. Sometimes the artist isn't the best judge of his/her work.

I agree on American Dad it is very sharp and very funny. As for The Simpsons I very rarely watch it anymore. I prefer Futurama to The Simpsons. The Simpsons lost the edge years ago. I personaly think when you start putting too much sentimentality into comedy it loses the fact that it is comedy. The Simpsons has become grossly sentimental. Family Guy has started doing it more and it even sneaks into American Dad. These are my least favourite episodes.

I must I found that the Simpsons Movie was funny, but only because of the visual gags, the dialogue was lacking but there were quite a few visual gags you don't notice first time round

I've recently started watching the new episodes of the Simpsons on Sky1 as I haven't really bothered with the series since about 2000 but I have to say the series is a lot better than people make out. Since the show went HD there is an incredible amount of gags thrown into every scene and I think the newer episodes should get more attention as they are undeservingly rated as pointless because we are in season whatever now.
If the writing team can still come up with decent ideas for scripts then they should continue, some say it isn't as edgy but then again no long running programme can continually be edgy. They either become "stale" or they get ridiculously over the top, i mean Family Guy has had a pretty drastic fall from grace a lot faster than the Simpsons ever did. That kind of humour just can't be considered edgy in the long run, which is why many people prefer American Dad as it has elements of FG but with a traditional comedy basis. Also there is very little to be edgy with when you have a cartoon that is produced 3 months in advance. I like the fact that the Simpsons has to sort of be timeless in its comedy, it is something that dates South Park horribly with some of its older episodes. And Simpsons still do stuff thats edgy it just doesn't get the attention it used to, there has been many gay themed episodes in the newer seasons that are just as poignant as many other episodes. The edge is there but the audience is desensitised to most of the stuff that made The Simpsons noteworthy. Sorry that went on a bit. |

Noway i still enjoy watching the new episodes and if the 6-7 mill viewers/fans that do watch enjoy it then leave it be its not hurting anyone right?
I iked the recent seasons alot more than the ones a few years back they seemed to have pur more effort into it these past 2 years and you can really tell. Family guy has just had a brillient 10th season it really was back on top form after a dissapointing ninth season Seth may want family guy to end but will he actually do it? I bet he wont as money always wins over creative in the end especially in a tv show were the merchandising is massive. |

I've lost interest in The Simpsons, but that doesn't necessarily mean it should be cancelled. I've simply outgrown it. Kids growing up today may be able to relate to it a lot more.
