To give that overfed bunch £500 for food was just completely 0TT and wasteful . Again they can't do simple addition and calculated by more then a £100 over.

Or is it just that you aren't in charge of the shopping? The price of food has climbed so much in the past 12 months that I now find myself retrospectively calculating how much I've spent/eaten per day and I've made a concerted effort to bring the price down. I now eat on average £5/day, eat very healthily and certainly never go hungry. I can now add to the pleasure of cooking for myself every day the pleasure of doing it on a budget. £4.76/day is just right, IMO.

The prices that are charged by BB for the food do not necessarily reflect the real cost of the items. They tend to price luxury items higher and basic nutrition lower, so there's no knowing how much they 'ought' to be spending per person per day.

When I'm on a budget I spend £6.80 per day on food for two people. That's breakfast, lunch and dinner. It can be done but it's a struggle to eat fresh, quality meat and fresh fruit and veg on that budget. If I put at bit aside each day I am able to get a cheap bottle of plonk at the end of the week.
The HMs can't take advantage of BOGOFS and others offers which help keep costs down if they also want booze, fags and junk such as chocolate and biscuits, £5.00 a day is not luxurious.

Well it is if you compare it to £1.00 a day, this also can also be done if you meal plan, know your prices and are a creative cook.

I disagree about the vegetables. If you're willing to cook meals from fresh ingredients it works out much cheaper than using processed ingredients because vegetables are so affordable. Even bell peppers (one of my favourites), which can cost 80p each, are cheap considering the mileage involved, and a bag of 7 oranges often only costs £1. How that's possible I've no idea. Meat on the other hand is quite expensive, but a small amount goes a long way, nutritionally speaking. It's actually quite healthy to only eat a few ounces of meat per day anyway, unless you're a teenager. A healthy adult need only eat meat a couple of times per week.

Why they didn't put basic foods at the top and treats lower down I can't imagine. I would have been cross to see that mountain of biscuits and half the dinner ingredients crossed off.

I don't think they could muster a teaspoon of common sense between them, except of course for Benedict who will keep his mouth shut rather than draw attention to the fact that he is the only proper adult in a houseful of kidults, and wishes he could be a kidult fuh evah.

Yeah, someone's a dunce when it comes to maths.

I would have thought it was pretty easy to give £31 each for everyone to spend. That's how I'd have done it.
