It just makes sense to have them on, as the article says 1D and Adele are the biggest UK music export at the moment, and what better way to get the tweenies to watch.

It is the Scottish Sunday Mail and was only a small article about the money the group are estimated to be worth to Sony.

Radio play for One Thing in America needs stepped up and the lack of tv promo and absence of the video on itunes is still of concern imo.

I agree with you completely, but airplay for One Thing is good at the moment as they are #20 on Pop radio in the US.

I'm also quite worried about the lack of TV promo and I'm really surprised that they haven't performed on any talk-shows or morning shows during the US tour. I also don't understand how The Wanted can get better promotion slots than 1D when 1D are obviously more successful than them in America

i don't believe either that they would do it everytime as it would be too obvious... but a little more than the mere occasional push for slots in shows and nominations here and there is not that improbable, lolz!!

Lack of American Mainstream Media Coverage Is Confusing

I so agree. I am in Canada and I cannot BELIEVE the lack of appearances. I know they are busy all the time,
but they are in Los Angeles from Monday to Friday (apparently working on the new album people say).

It is SO critical to get them on major media magazine covers (not just the teen mags), some kind of KEY
morning, afternoon, night time talk shows all of that. People say Ellen is not shooting in June and July
so that might be out (which is a huge shame).

They are already NOT going to be at the Much Music Video Awards today in Canada (which is a really big show)
and they have missed other award shows (now of course I am not sure if they were just not invited on purpose
or if they were busy etc). There is a real gap here in coverage I find.

Ideally, should be on 60 minutes, or one of those big night time shows that everyone in the USA talks about.
I still watch in absolute horror at all the "shock jock" radio shows they subject the boys to in the USA -
they are truly terrible interviews on so many levels. Those boys deserve better, they have earned it.

Yeah I heard about them not performing at the Much Music Video Awards and they got nominations as well. They could have performed at the MTV movie awards as they were free that date. It's a shame that they probably will not performing at the Teen Choice Awards. Radio interviews are great, but I think it's essential for them to perform on TV shows as this would help to build up their fanbase.

When Justin Bieber was starting out he was on every single show in America and Canada and it should be the exact same for 1D because they are still new artists there. I would love for them have an interview on a talk show (i.e. Jimmy Kimmel) as it would showcase their adorable personalities to the public.

It just really annoys me how The Wanted have performed on these shows :

1. Billboard Music Awards
2. The Today Show
3. Jay Leno (Twice)
4. Ellen Show
5. American Idol
6. The Voice
7. Much Music
8. The View
9. Chelsea Lately
10. Some Festival (Can't remember the name)

They've performed on all these shows and have done radio interviews just to promote one song (GYC) I bet they have more stuff lined up for Chasing The Sun too.

TW's promotion is better than 1D's. I reckon if 1D had the promotion that The Wanted had then their album sales would be even higher.

1D's promotion:

1. The Today Show
2. KCA's
3. iCarly episode
4. Much Music

I know 1D have been busy with the US tour, but they have some days off and I feel like they should fit in some TV promotion.

Really does highlight the difference in promotion and the fact that One Direction have grown through word of mouth and without as much effort being made on their behalf by their management. The fanbase has been great but the management need to put more effort into getting them on big tv shows instead of adding more concert dates to rake in more money.

I agree, they definitely can't continue relying on the fanbase doing the work for them. I think Leona Lewis's promotion was a lot better than 1D's.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with everyone. Maybe it's because things work differently here in the US than it does in the UK.

The main goal of most music promotion is to sell singles and albums. And I'm failing to see where the boys are falling short on single and album sales. They're still in the Top 5! They're sales numbers are largely unheard of for a new artist. Shit, these days it's unheard of for a lot of established artists.

Without question the #1 thing a music artist needs in the US to sell singles and albums is RADIO PLAY. We have 50 states and HUNDREDS of radio stations. With very fragmented markets with very unique audiences.

You have NO idea how UNBELIEVABLY HARD it is to crack US Radio. And by some friggin' MIRACLE. One Direction HAS. Their label was able to get that song on radio play lists across the nation and that is one herculean feat. There are established acts that would KILL for the radio play these boys are getting. And this tour and all of the local radio promo and local media the boys are doing are helping them them get that radio play. Not just for WMYB but also for "One Thing". And god willing, when they drop the new single from album #2 this fall.

I think you're so stressed about TV appearances because in the UK it's just as important as radio play there.

You complain about all of The Wanted's TV appearances? Really? What good is it doing them? Their album isn't selling shit.

Like I said before, in the summer time pickin's are slim for big TV appearances. And I'm sorry but 60 MINUTES is a VERY serious, stodgy old news show who's audiences is WAAAAAAY too old for 1D.

Let's break it down.

MORNING NEWS SHOWS

There are 3 -

The Today Show
Good Morning America
CBS This Morning.

The only ones worth caring about are the 1st two. They already landed The Today Show (and rumor has it, they're due back before the end of the summer). That leaves GMA - they just did a big news segment on them. Don't hold your breath for a big performance anytime soon because these morning shows are VICIOUSLY competative and don't like to book the same acts too close to each other. Artists usually have to pick one or the other for their latest promotion cycle.

MORNING TALK SHOWS

The View,
Live! With (whoever is the latest host).

Those are the only ones worth going on. They're based in New York. So that's not going to happen until the boys head back that way.

AFTERNOON TALK SHOWS

Ellen
Wendy Williams Show (if you're slumming)

Ellen is on hiatus. So, not going to happen right now. Wendy is based in NY.

PRIME TIME PERFORMANCE SHOWS

Right now it's just America's Got Talent. And I think they're still in auditions rounds. The boys will be back in the UK before they go to lives.

LATE NIGHT TALK SHOWS

Jay Leno
Conan
Craig Ferguson

All LA based and possible. But of the 3, Jay is the highest rated.

David Letterman
Jimmy Fallon
Last Call with Carson Daly

New York based, and they're not in NYC right now.

MAJOR AWARD SHOWS

Teen Choice Awards (they're not in the country for that)
MTV Movie Awards (they weren't even remotely connected to a movie, so chances were slim to begin with)
MTV MUSIC Awards - late August, I believe. And I think you can bet your sweet bippy they'll be on that one.

And this will be after they perform at the Olympics Closing Ceremony - in front of a BILLION PEOPLE.

I think management is diong pretty good right now.
