This seems to work well and the manual version, SlimDrivers, is free
http://www.driverupdate.net/

EDIT: In case the comment below alarms you read this
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/downloads...rivers-224118/
and this
http://systemexplorer.net/filereviews.php?fid=10635705
AFAIK it's perfectly safe and have never had problems with it

Generally they are all full of juicey malware and best to be avoided. Likewise anything that claims to defrag your registry or enhance your DLLs or other such nonsense.

If you need drivers go direct to the manufacturers website, put in the CD or run Windows Update. Updating drivers is not something you need to be doing as a routine maintenance job despite what some of these products may tell you and if your not careful you can end up causing more damage.

I agree with every word of that.

Thank you all for your replies. Much appreciated.

Don't think I'll bother, as there were only a couple of things I wanted to update, and I am of the mind, if it aint broke don't fix it.

I use the free version of Slim Drivers, it is bonefide and well behaved. I disagree that it should only be neccessary to update drivers when you have a problem but updating drivers is not without risk.

The free version does load automatically on booting but I disable that and run it once every blue moon
