Lordy, who saw those results coming? I live quite near a well-known Greek community area in London - the car horns haven't quite kicked off yet, but I am hunting around for my earplugs as I type....

Euro 2000, was the best tournament ever for me, with this one just behind. I may be wrong as its so long ago but I am pretty sure very little of Euro 84 was shown live in the UK as there was no UK involvement in the finals
Now I think of it, you're right, but I'm pretty sure there were highlights every other day on the day. I definitely remember making sure I caught sportsnight or whatever to catch up. ITV had pretty poor coverage (no change there then ) And I saw at least two or three live matches - all featuring France I think - and one of those was the final.

England were really unlucky not to win that. England were 5 out of 5 in the penalty shootout in the semi, but sadly Germany matched us and we went out in sudden death.

We would likely have beaten the Czech Republic in the final too.

Euro 2008 was my favourite ever tournament but this tournament is fast becoming my favourite, obviously the knockout stages could become more cagey, the games weren't the best tonight but still no 0-0 draws

Although average games tonight the drama and gripping nature of the games made it exciting. Who'd have predicted the outcome of those games tonight, you'd have got great odds on Czech Republic and Greece going through.

I shouldn't really say as they won it in 2004 but Greece are surely the worst side to qualify for the knockout stage of a major tournament, they are rank rotten. Czech Republic not much better but somehow they managed 6 points and Russia after looking great in their opener are going home.

The Dutch v Portugal tomorrow promises so much, lets hope it delivers.

I just couldn't get into Euro 2008 without England being in it. It just felt like something was missing.

You seem to forget how lucky England were to beat Spain on penalties in the previous round after being thoroughly outplayed.

I loved it, it was drama from the kick off, I'll never forget the Argentina/Cameroon game as long as I live, what an opener !! Cameroon down to 9 men manage to hold off the Champions Argentina who we still hadn't (and possibly never will) forgiven for cheating us out of the previous WC, the late goal v Belgium, the Cameroon game...... or even Cameroon full stop, they really put African football on the map that tournament, Roger Milla, Toto Schillachi, Brazil v Argentina etc etc the biggest let down for me was the final...... which was sh**.

Spain played well and were unlucky to have a goal ruled out, they didn't though "thoroughly outplay" us, they just had the better of the game.
