I have Galaxy S2 on O2 (not rooted or anything), using official ICS 4.0.3 firmware, updated through Samsung Kies back in March.

For the last two days, Kies has been telling me it's downloaded new firmware for my phone, but when I plug it into the USB cable, it shows that the latest firmware is already installed, except the first time I tried it yesterday morning, when the option to upgrade was available (didn't have time to do it then so left it).

I have:
PDA:LP3/PHONE: LPR/CSC:LP4 (O2U)

can't remember the other version that was shown briefly yesterday

Any ideas why I can't update?

First of forget Kies!

Make sure you home and turn on WiFi on your phone.

Go to:
Settings
About Phone
Software Upgrade
Update
OK
Download

It will download and install.

Done that, NO UPDATES AVAILABLE shows when I try it

Possibly a software bug. The latest update is 4.0.3 though there should be a minor update at some point this year to fix some bugs.

I don't think the provider updates are done OTA and must be done through Kies. That said, you have the latest firmware version. Kies has recently done an update, try uninstalling it and reinstalling the newest version, it might cure the false message.

Thanks, will try that! I was getting my hopes up that 4.0.4 was available for the S2 but looks like Kies has made an error on this occasion
