Is this Xoom any good ?

Notice on Argos they have it for only £250, is it any good ? If so, is it that cheap because it is old stock or is it fairly current ?

It's cheap because it's old, and because it failed to sell at its original iPad-matching price.

Spec. wise, it's very similar to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Tegra 2, 1GB RAM, etc.).

It's a good tablet. I think the main criticisms of it when it came out due to the original version of Android "Honeycomb". That's since been updated, plus that link says it can also be upgraded to the latest version of Android, "Ice Cream Sandwich".

The Xoom is a 'Nexus' device so like the Galaxy Nexus phone it gets the updates before other devices and it has no modifications done to it, just Android the way Google want you to see it.

Whether those updates continue I couldn't tell you but it was one of, if not the first, device to get upgraded to 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich..

It also has USB (hub?) support so you can use USB gamespads and hard drives with it, its defintely one of the better tablets around, better than the Xoom 2 IMO.

I think you are talking about the US version?
The version sold in the UK is different, and still hasn't got the ICS update.

Was never worth the money when it first came out which is why the price has dropped so much. Not a bad tablet and you wouldn't be disappointed with it but for the same money you can get a 2nd hand transformer 101 with docking station which pretty much beats in every aspect and also doubles as a netbook.

The Xoom is brilliant. I hate these threads where you only get the negatives.

First the OS. In the UK the Xoom currently runs 3.2 and it does it extremely well. ICS is promised and should be here within a few months, but from people I have spoken to, it really is a lot of cosmetic work, like a lot of these updates.

My Xoom is fast, I've had it for about 6 months now and I have had no problems with it. My son has an iPad2 and had to admit he couldn't find a difference between the two, certainly with regard to speed etc. There is a tiny weight difference, the Xoom is the heavier but in his opinion, negligible. And of course, the Xoom runs Flash.

The Xoom comes with 32gb internal memory and accepts up to 32gb SD card. The iPad has no such facility. It also sports USB and an HDMI which means that it's great for boring the relatives by showing off those photos. But it also means movies etc. can be saved to the device for streaming later if your TV is not an internet ready version.

I'm not sure where the idea that it is a Nexus comes from. To my knowledge it is not!

All in all I would say it's a good buy but it's all down to choice. If you want a second hand tablet at that price, well we pay our money and take our choice. I'm not sure I would like a second hand tablet but that is just my feeling.

Not a bad deal 32GB model, and allows storage upgrade (another 32GB), so great for all your music and movies on the go.

Nice display, and should have it's ICS update already (if not, then it's surely got to be close)

According to Argos it does I think.

I don't own one but have played with one, very smooth and slick it was too.

Love my Xoom, it's very fast and smooth, amazing graphic capabilities, plays HD movies, use it way more than my laptop now, it's meant to get ICS before the end of Q2 but rumour is it might be coming this Thursday, reports suggest it makes it even better.

Also partner prefers it to his iPad 2.

Yes Xoom is a good work horse, not as slick as my ipad2 but you wont be dissapointed.I did the US hack which allowed me to download ICS and must admit it has improved the Xoom no end. There are a lot of things you can do with the Xoom that you cant do with the ipad, but I wouldn't swap tbh.

Doubt it's going to happen, noticed that Motorola Australia has announced it was happening today but have now announced it won't be in Q2 due to unforeseen delays! At this rate I will attempt to flash at the end of this month, just concerned I am not too hot technically and I might brick the tablet..

Well, as you all know from my posts, I had reservations about using the methods on these forums to update my UK Xoom to ICS 4.0.4 as I just did not want to brick my precious tablet. In the end, this evening, it all got the better of me and using the instructions found within the Xoom forums my Tablet is now running ICS. All in all I suppose it took about 50 minutes and concluded without a hitch.

Have now been playing around with it for a couple of hours without problems.
