If Prince William leaves no legitimate issue but Prince Harry does...
....what happens? Does Prince Harry get to accede to the throne?
After all, William IV acceded to the throne despite having two older brothers, because he had legitimate issue and they didn't. (edit: Actually, they may have died before George VI did, so maybe that's why?) My god, the rules of inheritance are strange.... |

Surely Harry would only become King if William died leaving no children. When Charles dies, William would become King regardless of whether he had kids or not. William IV only became king after his brothers died.

No doubt Kate was thoroughly checked to ensure she could pop out the goodies needed.

i think the line of succession looks back up the family tree and if William had no offspring, it would fall to Harry. If nothing from him either doesn't it go back a generation and then down the line of the next son ie Prince Andrew's kids (assuming he is dead?)

William and Kate would probably buy one on the internet and pass it off as their own.

Kate is probably being pumped mercilessly with William sperm. If she isn't pregnant by this time next year I'd be very surprised.

There are loads of people lined up so finding a new monarch would not be a problem.

I remember hearing - no idea whether it's true or not - when King George VI died, the Queen Mother, although she was 51, had to have a pregnancy test as any male child she might have been expecting would have taken precedence over the Queen. I've no idea if that really happened - probably not, but it does make an interesting talking point. Could an unborn child succeed to the throne ? It could happen. Say the Queen and Prince Charles were to die and William became King without having produced an heir and then he died, but his wife was known to be expecting. They must have thought of this. What would happen in such circumstances?

I'm sure Prince William will have no trouble getting Kate pregnant.

Yes it has happened before, although in Spain. Alfonso XII had two daughters when he died, but his wife, the queen, was pregnant. She later gave birth to a son, Alfonso XIII (the grandfather of Juan Carlos), who took precedence over his two sisters. While they were waiting for the birth and until Alfonso reached majority, the dowager queen was regent.
If the dowager queen had had another daughter, then the eldest daughter would have become queen. |
