I am trying to find somewhere that I can buy marzipan for my grandad. I used to buy it from Thorntons but now they are closed down and I have no idea where else to try.
I live in Croydon.

Thank you for your help

Do you mean a block of marzipan or some kind of marzipan chocolates?

German Ritter Sport Chocolate Marzipan is as good as and probably better than Thorntons offering....should be available in any Waitrose or the German Foodstore in Borough Market near London Bridge Station.

Hotel Chocolat do them. Aldi have various marzipan chocolates and chocolate bars but they tend to be more of a seasonal thing there in the run-up to Christmas.

My grandad only ever wants whiskey or mazipan for his occassions and if we dont buy it for him, he'll buy it for himself and then tell us that as he knew we are so mean he brought it for himself anyway lol. he has built up quite an impressive range of whiskeys for xmas and his birthday so I wanted to go with the marzipan (he's not really supposed to eat it so its a occasional treat).

Thorntons used to do a perfect little box of marzipans but now they are closed I'll need to look for something else he's so bloody set in his ways though I cant imagine what else he would want.

But hey he also has the pleasure of my company for an evening so that should be more than enough

What a silly thing to say. Different families have different traditions, especially around these 'made up' gift occasions.

Too late now, but so you know in future, Lidl do really nice traditional German bars of chocolate covered marzipan.

I love the ones you get in Aldi. The Choceur brand ones.

Bars of marzipan in dark chocolate, they come in a pack of 5 for about £1.29 or so.

I know it's a bit late for Father's day but I bought my dad some personalised marzipan from a shop online called Lovemarzipan. They seem to do it all year round for different occasions so perhaps you could give them a try??

Niederegger make the best quality marzipan in the world. Very expensive to buy in the UK but is much much cheaper buying direct from their website (there is an English translation) even with postal costs factored in.

The blood orange marzipan is amazing but not sweet and sickly.

The big selection boxes are very good value; have seen them on sale at triple the price in the UK!

http://www.niederegger.de/

look under 'classics' and the scroll down tha amount for larger size selection boxes
