Dolly is a lovely name as a pet name or nick name but as a proper name I think it's a bit twee. What happens if she's a really sensible, dower and totally un-'Dolly' like person? If I really liked the name I'd have called her Dolores (or whatever else it's supposed to be short for) and just called her Dolly. Best of both worlds - formal name and pet name Just like me, I'd have hated to have been properly called Lotty

As a formal name I'd think I'd prefer either of those to Dolly! I wonder if Ethel was named after someone?

But what if she's not, you know, 'foxy'? If she's quite plain, dowdy and totally unsexy? She might not like her name then

India's nice, wasn't one of Princess Diana's bridesmaids called that?

Seriously. Why would they do that to a little baby? Why? Why?? It's not even a pet's name. At a very very very long, tolerant stretch, it *might* just not be too awful for a boy, but a GIRL??

Suddenly Dolly seems lovely and normal and Chantellitall and Alex seem like responsible parents.

They stole my name! And I'm very angry about it! And don't try and tell me they haven't had this name since she was born).
Sheree Murphy/Harry Kewell have a Dolly too.

^ It wasn't the name of a female character though. Don't make excuses for the terrible name!

Oh I know, and Dana is a fine name, just trying to come up with some sort of (although stretching the boundaries of the meaning of the word) plausable explanation.

I'm old enough to remember when Chelsea became popular.

Twenty years from know I guess that it'll be a commonplace name just like Chelsea.

I still don't like it though.

Which is French for fake! Oh people and their need to give their kids chavvy Spe'chulle, Yahneek names that a stripper would be ashamed to use!

Copy/pasted from today's popbitch

So Chantelle and Alex Reid finally
revealed their baby's name - Dolly.
The celeb weeklies claimed they'd
been told it would cost them an
arm and a leg for the Big Name
Reveal interview. So weeks went by,
and nothing happened. Finally on
Tuesday, Chantelle revealed all in
her bog-standard New magazine column.

Coincidentally, this was the the
last publication date before the
42 days limit before you have to
legally register your baby's name,
and therefore anyone could publish it.

Also pertinent to this thread and from the same source.

Mark Owen's latest child: Fox India.
Did they forget the trot?

I had an Auntie Dolly but that was a shortened version of Dolina which carries far more gravitas.

If Dolly wants to be taken seriously in later life, it will be hard for her with a name like that.
It worked for my Grandma

She was christened Dorothy but was known as Dolly or Doll all her life. It was because she was born on her sisters 3rd birthday & when she saw her she said - she is my Dolly. Grandad always called her Doll.

She is more likely to be bullied for having a Cross dressing father who was once married to Katie Price. It is Princess Tiamii that is most like to be bullied for her name and parents.
Dolly is a proper name, and old fashioned chic too.

I don't like made up names but Tiaamii is quite nice, shame about the Princess bit.

I like the name Dolly. I wasn't too sure at first but now I think it is pretty and has an old-fashioned air to it that I like. Plus Dolly Parton might look like dizzy blonde but she is one smart, sharp lady and her name didn't hold her back!! In fact it suits her.

It's still much much x 1000 better than dolly. Dolly is up there with Peggy, Polly, poppy etc.. Yes these are "proper" names but they just sound sappy to me.

She can always go by the name India which is cute. Fox is pretty pretentious. She could be India fox Owen.

The most recent stats I can find for 2010 show that 10 baby boys were named Fox, no baby girls (although they don't publish if there is only 1 with a name to protect identity)

As for Dolly there were 57 of them. Not a name I would choose but it could have been worse. It reminds me of my great aunt Dolly who died aged 85 in about 1990, very old fashioned!
