I wouldn't bet on it.
Microsoft and Apple now collaborating like 2 peas in a pod sounds the future but I'm a cynic.

There are plenty of Panaromic apps already though

Geographical restrictions when accessing video/audio? We have the same problem accessing US content from the UK. Only way around that is a proxy.

its not just a panoramic app. it retains perspective in all 3 dimensions.

Wrt android. I have read that they are working on it. The windows phone version was only released this month, long after iOS

by content I that it that you mean the boxes, rather than text? Those boxes contain audio or video.

Mind you I once when to the BBC site, forgot I was on a US proxy and was suprised to see banner adverts

Since when can't you "type up notes/letters, catch up on emails" on an iPad?

Why would you need to be connected to the internet to "type up notes/letters?" As for checking and sending e-mail well ofcourse you need an internet connection, just as you would with a computer or smartphone. The iPad is wifi and cellular capable.

There are also other word processing applications available for the iPad, including Apple's own and excellent Pages, which supports .doc files.

You don't sound like you have much experience with and knowledge about iPads.

What makes you think an iPad can not connect to the Internet?
It is a wifi and cellular capable device, just like a smartphone.

Why do you think you need Office to write notes and letters?

How much typing did you do before you came to that conclusion because i can type just as fast on an iPad as I can with my Mac keyboard. In fact, the keys are the same size.

The ipad can connect but the apps to type etc dont appear until its connected, its an extremely basic device!

Yes, it's the same as what psionic said. Media restrictions based on region is normal and what you would also get on a computer.

Not at all, it wont even load the bbc page - never mind the media. It wont connect to any uk sites and browsing is limited to CNN and MSNBC unless the iPad is on the university premises and connected to the network, where you immediately have office, photoshop, encore, flash, apple mail and so many other things that just do not appear on the app screen when you take the device home.

I'm in America and I go to the BBC site all the time.

And how can you have Office, Photoshop and Flash on the iPad? Certainly not natively. Neither of those apps are available for use on an iPad.

Are you using an iPad assigned to you from a school??

Did it ever occur to you that your school's iPads are configured in such a way as to prevent many functions from working? Why would you think your experience with your school's iPad applies to all iPads?

An iPad is a computing device and just like all computing devices can be configured in different ways. Many businesses use specially configured iPads, just as they do with computers, from simple kiosks to field support for their technicians. In fact, Apple itself uses iPads as product demos and registers for purchasing products. Those iPads are restricted to do just those things.

The iPad is not the "extremely basic device" you think it is.

For what it's worth I don't know what you are taking about either. If you want to type up some Notes you can do that in the Notes app. You absolutely do not need to be connected to the Internet for the Notes app to open.

And as far as I know, there is no way, on any device, to check your email without an Internet connection.

It does sound like they have been configured that way for the school, perhaps to make them useless away from the school,to discourage students from taking them off the school premises.
