I doubt someone would go to the lengths of making a 50+ page document, including sketches of new products, so it is no doubt real. I guess by not saying it isn't real, you can say it is as good as saying it is real. |

Forza 5 on Xbox 720, I shudder to think how good that will be.

But I don't want the 'cut down' non-media version to be in any way inferior on the games front. |

The thing is all the features you mention are software so why bring out a version of the console without it, it doesn't add to the cost of producing the unit.

I bet they'll just call it the new Xbox as neither Xbox 3, Xbox 720 or Xbox 8 sound right.

Exactly. It's upto the developers to make the games. I'm happy for Microsoft and Sony to add extra software features that probably don't take huge resources from them. The less boxes I have attached to my tv the better and as long as the next Xbox has enough horsepower and 3rd party devs support it as well as the 360 then Microsoft will be happy.

The rumoured inclusion of cable TV playback would be only feature that would add extra cost, however that is unlikely to even make it out of the US. Quote:
I think it was simply down to the fact 8 turn sideways is the symbol for infinity, and MS are pushing windows 8, Win mobile 8 at the moment. there has been no rumour of it being the code name. I think it's bit far fetched really, I don't know Xbox Infinity sounds weird to me. |

Are you sure ? I'm sure it was hinted in interview during E3 time. Even if it was just patcher who don't normally like to listen to is not exactly unlikely considering how MS want to dominate the living room.

Are you trying to say that the two versions, one with just basic gaming capabilities, the other with all the whizzy multimedia stuff would be priced identically? No way.

The point is that MS wouldn't sell a version that is limited as it wouldn't save them any money to do so as it would cost the exact same to make as the other version. Also MS want to push the Xbox as home entertainment, releasing a version with limited software would be madness. |

The 'multimedia whizzyness' is software, it isn't hardware. This is a one-off upfront cost to Microsoft, foregoing updates. It doesn't require any additional hardware which impacts the unit cost. It is like Windows coming with Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer. There isn't a cheaper version without them. As for cable - for once I agree with Pachter. Given the leaked doc mentions DVR capabilities, and to be the only box in the living room it needs to replace your TV delivery box. That is obviously a US thing, and anywhere else that cable has a much better coverage. If they did it in the UK I'd expect it to be with BT Vision. |

However if say MS want Cable playback, that requires more hardware meaning that could mean another SKU that obviously be priced higher. I expect A few SKU's with few different HDD's sizes, and and maybe a all in one box released in america with cable playback and massive HDD. The things that he stated would add at most very minimal cost due the factors stated above. |

if it is 299$ and 360 is around 250$ then 360's price will decrease significantly. should i buy 720?

Without having anything confirmed about the next Xbox no one can say if it's worth buying at launch. |
