Does anyone know what these mini-pizzas were?

During the 80's my mother used to buy some frozen mini-pizzas.

No one seemed to eat them but me, so it was a fairly safe snack if I wanted something and knew they would be there.

They weren't great, but they were 'good enough'. I'd just microwave them. They came in a bag, and the pizzas inside were wrapped in plastic. There were 6-8 pizzas inside, an individual one would fit on a saucer (I'd usually eat two at a time).

There were two flavours I remember, one was a cheese and tomato type, and I think the bag colour was orange, and there was a cheese and onion flavour, which I'm pretty sure came in a green bag.

I'm thinking maybe it was Findus or Ross or something. Can anyone remember them and know what brand they were? Are they still around? I'd love to try one again and probably realise they were worse then I remembered...

It's okay, as the nineties came, I progressed to buying Pizza Perfection pizzas (I think) and microwaving them on top of the box to save using a plate.

Thanks in advance!

I remember them. I used to have two after swimming on a Thrusday to watch Battlestar Galactica. I think they were M&S. I sort of remember a St. Michael brand on them but it was a long time ago.

The plastic bag and individually wrapped in plastic sound like what we in our family called cheap pizzas they had very little cheese on them and a lovely tomato sauce - the bases were the nicest things I ever had and are sorely missed.

However these can't be the same as they weren't microwavable (you could do them in oven or grill - which was my preferred method) and I don't remember them coming in different flavours just cheese and tomato.

I wish they were still around

Was it not iceland that sold them?

I used to have them too. They weren't supposed to be microwaved but they wouldn't do you any harm if you did.
I can remember the bag that they came in but can't for the life of me remember who made them

I think a few different brands made these.

I used to eat them for breakfast for a while for some reason. God bless my mum for letting me.

Yes they were made by several companies although Ross does ring a bell.

As for eating them for breakfast, I remember when I was about 15/16 (80s), I stayed over at my cousin's house and she made mini pizzas under the grill. I was blown away! I didn't realise people ever ate pizzas for breakfast!

Needless to say, my mum didn't mind us making it for breakfast when I told her.

Can't remember the make but I used to love the cheese and onion. I've always loved pizza for breakfast.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I think we're getting there

They were meant to be cooked properly, but I just microwaved them. It did the job - probably made them a little different to a pizza, but still tasted pretty good. I think 50 seconds on 850W worked well. I remember that, wish I could remember the brand...

I guess it's possible they were M&S, but I think my mother was getting them at the local supermarket, which was probably called a 'Gateway' at the time. So, I don't think they were a store brand.

I liked the cheese & onion ones a lot, it was a recent discussion I had about white pizzas that reminded me of these...

...and if they were bought regularly and only I was eating them, they were almost certainly pretty cheap.

I remember these, we used to call them 'frisbee pizzas.'

Used to chuck them under the grill for about 8 minutes after a few ales, great little snack.

I remember them well, thought they were McCains tbh.

I'm thinking maybe it was McCain too, perhaps.

Now that I think a bout it, maybe as few as four or six were in a bag, and the plastic-wrapped pizzas are were packed in what was like a bread bag, either tied on the top with a red piece of tape, or one of those plastic tags (it used to alternate).

I've searched for McCain mini pizzas and they still do them, but in a box. The picture of the pizza looks similar, but I know that's not much to go on...

Does anyone remember McCain mini pizzas being packaged that way...?

I remember cheese & tomato pizza slices. I don't think they were Ross though.
I'm pretty sure they were either McCains or McVities. I know McCains would be the obvious choice for frozen food but there is something in the back of my mind that says it was McVities.

Not the ones I had in the 90s but got them the other day from Asda and they are pretty similar.

Thats how I remember them, about 6 in the mainly green or orange bags, if any body asked me I would say McCain but would stand to be proven wrong. I searched as well & I'm sure its the same same name although they come in a box now.
Im pretty sure most shop chains produced their own versions after them but its the green or orange bags I remember as the originals

These are nothing like the cheap pizzas I used to get - I bought these in hope that they would be similar, but the base was completely wrong, the cheese was wrong and the sauce was wrong.

I would say they weren't McCains either because back when I was a kid McCains wasn't that cheap of a brand. The last time I had them was about 4 years ago they were from Morrisons and the brand was something like Polly or Pollo or something but there wasn't one distinct brand for these pizzas I remember getting them in different colours all being the same pizza.

I used to buy the little 'frisbee pizzas' from Gateway back in the 80s, they came in a pack of six for a quid something.

Pretty sure they weren't McCains or any well known brand, but Gateway's own make.

There was two flavours - cheese & tomato or cheese & onion - both with bugger all cheese on, but a tidy, quick, cheap snack all the same.

you could get branded and supermarkets own - they were immense cause they had so little cheese but the toppings all melted together

I think when french bread frozen pizza came out (though thats gone now too) they got left behind - then french bread got left behind by pizza fingers.....and now the little deep pan ones also people buy

if you look in the ready meals aisle they have similar to the small original frozen mini pizza in the basic ranges.

I remember going to my mates once and having a bacon variety of the frisbee pizza. There was no actual bacon on them, but the base seemed to have some sort of bacon essence in it which tasted like smokey bacon crisps.

I know what you mean! Didn't they have a sort of weird metallic (but nice) taste to them, they weren't really tasting of cheese or tomato but were nice!

We used to get little pizzas in a sort of plastic tube/bag from Bejams. I think they were their own brand as there wasn't any big names on the packaging, in fact I think it was clear.
