Games like WoW, you buy the game and pay monthly fee. Then games like Guilds Wars 2 where you buy the game and no monthly fee. Would you say GW2 is a free to play game?

Having the arguement with someone and he brings up an example of games like max payne, saying is that f2p?

What do you all think? Thanks

I told you dude. You are paying a base price to access the files of a game, like GW2, like Max Payne 3.

I can't just legit download MP3 right now and play the game for free. MP3 is not a F2P game, and neither is GW2.

nope i don't know about mp3 but we are talking about gw2, diablo 3

F2P=free to play, normally it's applied to games that have some form of free to play online mode. When you pay for a game for instance max payne you are just buying a license in many ways. This license allows you play Single player and online so no MP3 is not an F2P game because you paying for that portion of the game.

DC Universe however you can go on your PS3 or PC download and when finished you can go play with no cost from the outset. So that is an example FTP game.

So the conclusion if there is any cost to start and get in to the game then I would say that is not a FTP game.

I was just about add that part. No Diablo 3 you have to pay for to play the game and complete it. A FTP game has all the features normally however has charges for additional things that don't restrict you and force you into buying them.

GW2 is pay once play forever.
WoW is play for as long as you subscribe.
DC Universe is free to play, but you can purchase additional content to add to your experience. (This is what F2P is, totally free to get the game and to play the game, you only have to pay to enhance your experience.)

Depends on the game. DC universe is really good example of good FTP game just wish had more time to play it.

F2P is evolving fast, that may have been in the case in the past but the likes of TF2 and DOTA2 are finding new ways to make income while keeping a level playing field for all.
