Early Doors question

I've been watching the reruns of Early Doors on GOLD and I'm sure that one of the bent coppers (I think it's Phil, the bald one, anyway) played someone's dad in Hollyoaks during the 90s.

Does anyone else remember him in it?

I loved Early Doors... a very under rated sitcom. A shame only 12 episodes were ever made.
The 2 policemen were brilliant. Their rendition of "Ebony and Ivory" was priceless!!

The quiz night was one of the funniest - and cleverest - "sits" in a "com". You didnt hear Ken's questions just his answers. A masterclass in how to more or less get away with libel

I see the occasional episode on (I think) Dave. A vastly under-rated sitcom, as you say.

It's very difficult to combine laugh-out-loud comedy with pathos that never veered into sentimentality.

The absolute best line was in Series 2 when Joe (Craig Cash) was talking to Melanie's new boyfriend, Dean (Lee Inglby) about her previous boyfriend and that the way he treated her was shameless.
In series 1 Melanie's boyfriend was played by James McEvoy who left Early Doors to play Steve in SHAMELESS!!!
Pure class writing by Cash & Mealey

There was a scene the other night where Ken gave Joan and Eddie the football card money cos they were on the point of having their phone cut off.

I don't mind admitting that it made me fill up a bit.

I was in bits for Ken when Melanie was going to see her biological dad- incredible writing and acting.

Was that the part where 'The Good Life' was playing over the scene?

Eddie telling the whole pub 'Joe's just having a shit!' is so funny.

Love the episode when it is Joan and Eddie's anniversary

'I've just been on the toilet Eddie'
'Number one or number two Joan'
'Number two'
'why not it's our anniversary, treat yourself'

Also love it when Jean is scoffing the lockets

'They're medicinal these Winnie, not sweets'

I loved that program so much. Real understated comedy that relied on the quality of the writing. Sometimes, no often, subtle humour.
I saw mention some years ago (probably in the Mirror TV mag) that it was coming back but nothing ever materialised

One of my favourite gags in that episode is the wonderful reveal of Tommy sitting at his table in the gents.

My favourite is Tommy's rant about the folk he works with, he hates them and they hate him. I won't spoil the punchline for those who haven't seen it. A wonderful show and it was great to watch it again last week.

Only joke that disappointed me a bit. I'm not sure why, but I spotted the punchline coming a mile off, and I'm normally rubbish at that sort of thing.

I sometmes wonder if Tommy's permanent bad temper was related to the fact that he was a Man CIty supporter...
