Loss of internet connection after installing Mcafee

Hi, yesterday I install Mcafee total protection antivirus on my PC. Problem is now whenever I turn my computer on it has no internet connection for about 10 mins.
This is the same on both IE and Firefox browsers and Windows Mail.
Then suddenly it starts working, I was only using the free Microsoft security solutions antivirus before and never had a problem till I upgraded to Mcafee. I even did the Mcafee PC tune up but no different.
Would anyone know what is causing this?, Thanks in advance for any replies.

Mcafee firewall is probably causing it .... would say (from bitter experience) installing Mcafee is a downgrade from even a basic freebie like microsoft security essentials

have to add though ... did you totally remove MSE?

I can't think of a better reason for the problem, maybe they are both fighting for control and McAfee eventually wins. I can't see one firewall stopping connection for 10mins and then deciding itself that 'it's alright now'.
Have to agree about McAfee, been there years ago and like Norton won't be returning.

OP .... can you see is msseces.exe running under processes in task manager, if it is then MSE is still active.
There is an MS Fixit and more information here .... make sure you choose the right version of MSE which you can change via a link in the first bit under 'symptoms'.

If it has nothing to do with MSE then I've no idea. If you can reinstall McAfee with a license then you could always uninstall it just to verify that the problem goes away.

As well as ensuring that you've completely removed MSE, you should also ensure you completely remove McAfee. Then install something else. You'll get plenty of recommendations here if you're not sure what other AV to go for.

Hi, thanks for the replies. It is working ok again now except for being a bit slow on startup.
After I ran the Mcafee tune up wizard I don't think I ran it since turning it off and allowing it to configure new settings.

Hi, still having problems with the McAfee anti virus I installed on my desktop PC and wireless mini notebook. About half the time they are ok and start up fine, then the other half the time turns off the internet connection on startup on both of them
I have tried turning the firewall off before opening either IE or Firefox browsers but this still happens on the desktop PC.
Could anyone recommend a different AV to use that has a parental control. I am going try get a refund from McAfee, it doesn't work well on my computers.
