Everytime I see her perform on TV its terrible.

I do like the song Dark Paradise though.

It isn't "hype" any longer now that she has successfully established herself

I'd say if anything she's under hyped. Compared to the likes of Cheryl, Rihanna, even Adele last year, hardly anything is being said about LDR. I like her and very much like her album, but I agree she is very inconsistent live.

Still talking about hype 5 months after the album was released? She's hardly mentioned now/not exactly played much on the radio but still the album continues to sell in big numbers. That isn't 'hype'. I would call that 'word of mouth recommendation' because the album is fantastic and diverse (which I'm sure comes as a surprise to many who have just heard Video Games) and it's finally OK to admit to loving her (I've always loved her btw). And if you want to witness her real live abilities there are loads of examples of non TV appearances on you tube. She's amazing live when not overly nervous (which she gets on TV). It's something she will undoubtedly overcome in time.

The answer to any thread title that starts "Am I the only one...?" is, invariably, NO.

I've always believed Lana will not hit the big time until album 2. Everything right now is a warm up to the main event and I think careerwise this will be better for her long term.

Born To Die is one of my all time favourite albums ever. Her voice is just heaven and her lyrics are so deep. She is a genius.

I love her music - but definitely wouldn't go to see her in concert if live appearances are anything to go by. She needs to have a theatrical stage setting with a story - her stood on stage singing would be dull after 6 songs

A bit like this? That was the stage for her recent mini residency at the Irving Plaza, NYC.

I don't like her singing voice and find her songs boring but I think all the praise she gets is because she's "different", to most mainstream artists at least.

Yes, that's a pitfall she'd need to avoid on album number 2 if she wants to last. She's an interesting character and her tone of voice, to me, is quite particular but she clearly uses her voice in a certain way which could verge on the gimmickry rather than "real" singing ability. And this doesn't do her full justice. One poster earlier praised the album for being diverse but I disagree with that and, like some reviews pointed out, it is very samey in its contents and vocal styles. Don't get me wrong, I really like her material. It's a very debut album and you can't fault its creativity and as you say the fact she's " different" to other current acts justifies the hype. But, I hope she'll be able to offer something different from this era and if not she has more to give from the same character to keep my interest going...

This is what my opinion of her is also! I think she is drop dead gorgeous and blows Cheryl, Rhianna etc out the water in that phase but she is just so depressing and lifeless!

Lyrics are so deep?

Arse. The whole album could be boiled down to "I love you honey but I want to die".

She's unique, but can see why people wouldn't "get her" or like her material.

I don't like her music/voice either - have tried, really I have, have listened to the album several times but I can't get past my dislike for her voice regardless of how good the songs are

I don't understand the hype and interest particularly from groups that normally like underground non-mainstream music
must be something that appeals but I dunno what, maybe she is marketed as cool and edgy?

Bought her album on an off chance and love it.

Much better album than "21" which I bought because of all the hype and hated.
