So what's the deal with moving back EE for football on
BBC1?

Is there a reason that the BBC don't show the football on BBC2 while leaving the BBC1 listings intact?

It's always baffled me as you go to watch BBC2 when the footballs on and it's normally some crap about trains or something equally as boring.

Yes there is. It's one of the BBC's charter policy thingys to use live sport and cultural events to bring the nation together and expose a UK audience to other cultures through things like sport. I'd say putting a live International Tournament of (arguably) the nations favourite sport on BBC1 fits in with that.

Also a significant number of people enjoy 'crap about trains' and such on BBC2. That too is filling a charter policy. It also provides an alternative for those interesting in more niche programming rather than sport or soaps which appeal to a mainstream audience.

However, that's irrelevant for the game tonight as its on ITV. The BBC are showing EE at 7pm tonight so they can get the maximum audience possible, as the England game is kicking off within its usual spot.

I know I'm posting on a soap forum because I like my bit of escapism but the schedules do not revolve round them. This tournament and especially tonight, is going to attract far more viewers than Eastenders so I think it's quite obvious why it's taken precedence! COME ON ENGLAND!

PS must add though that the Beeb normally attract good viewing figures for Easties so they're in a win-win and know people will watch it no matter what time it's moved to.

ah so even more reason to wonder what the problem is. So Eastenders is being shown half an hour earlier - oh my the world will never be the same again then

.
Because the ratings for the BBC one shows would sky dive?

Another Eastenders/football thread?

Yes, I had to wade through thousands of them before I decided to post one.

Thank you though Blue_Angel for a concise and coherent response to a genuine question, it beats my guess that they put it on BBC1 as the majority of football fans have trouble changing channels (that was a joke btw although feel free to flame away).

Kombat when it's England playing, we're never going to see soaps conflict with that because the schedulers know that they can't win against footie so it's a no brainer I'm afraid. I watched Easties and turned over to catch the run up to England because I love my country love the fact that we've qualified and hope to see us progress. It's a fact that that happens less so than Eastenders being aired.
