I don't even think Alesha was a great dancer; she was a very good performer, but her Latin technique wasn't great. She should never have been made a judge.
I think the producers wanted to get rid of a female dancer in order to "sex" the cast up a bit. Katya was more classy than sexy and she was understated rather than controversial. I liked that about her, but she didn't generate many headlines, which is all that seems to matter to the producers. It does suggest that they want the show to become more and more tacky - hardly a surprise at this stage to be honest.
