I also struggle to run in dreams and I also can't shout - it's like I've lost my voice, though bizarrely last night I was having a dream where an old man was attacking me(!) and I managed to shout but it was for my ex husband

It's basically this; brain says to legs "Bloody hell, it's a demented knife-wielding escaped lunatic libertarian zombie mutant coming to kill us, start running away!!!"

Legs say to brain "FFS! No we're not brain, we're in bed and we're trying to get some kip. Now bugger off and go back to sleep."

Brain: "Fine, I'll do it myself. I've seen them do this loads of times, it can't be that difficult."

And so it turns into your brain trying to do this: http://www.foddy.net/Athletics.html

It's your brain trying to communicate with sleepy muscles. It's a good thing too because otherwise you would go running into your wardrobe door every time you try to run away from something in your dreams.

I too feel like I'm running underwater when I try. Also can't dial phone numbers like others have said, throw a punch or scream.

Last night I had a dream that a 60ft rattlesnake could smell my uterus and was rushing really fast towards me and then wrapped around me and went down my throat. Then my Mum was tring to pull it out but no-one seemed very bothered by it - it was 'sweet'.

What do you reckon THAT means(?)

It means you want sex, it's so obvious. But your mum doesn't approve.

I'm always able to run, but I can never punch. My money always turns out to be fake too.

I used to have the non running dreams too.

Last night I dreamt that Ben Miller was trying to get off with me ,he was lovely but he had very very hairy legs. I had hairy legs too but mine were hairy so that they looked like those awful woolly patterned leggings, his were normal hairy but too much of it.What the hell does that mean?

I used to get those flying dreams a lot too. It was like floating on air; so easy. It was almost as if I was swimming in the air, the way my arms were outstretched.

Glad I'm not the only one, try cycling in your dreams - even more frustrating.

Go on dreammoods, they are really cool

'To dream that you are trying to run but cannot make your feet move as fast as you want them to signifies lack of self-esteem and self-confidence. It may also reflect your actual state of REM paralysis during the dream state.'

Same here, I have to grab onto objects to pull myself along! For some reason dream-me also likes to try to steal cars and drive away in them, that is until I remember that I don't know how to drive, and then the car disappears
