Switch - ITV2 Supernatural Drama

Coming to ITV2 in October, according to SFX ...

Quote:
Lacey Turner (EastEnders, Being Human) will star in the series, which will follow four female flatmates who are secretly witches.

She is joined by Nina Toussaint-White (Doctor Who), Hannah Tointon (The Inbetweeners) and Phoebe Fox (Black Mirror).

Turner will play "immaculately dressed" careerist Stella, while Toussaint-White has been cast as "sexy and stylish" fashionista Jude.

The group's moral compass Grace will be played by Fox, with Tointon starring as the "restless" and "spontaneous" Hannah.

The 'Witches of Camden' must face the challenges of living in contemporary London, as well as their sworn enemies the 'Witches of Kensington', Alexa, India, Romola and Remy.

Switch has been written by Chloe Moss (Prisoners' Wives) and Tim Price (Secret Diary of a Call Girl).

"Switch is a contemporary series about friendship with a spell-binding twist," said ITV's Laura Mackie. "Chloe and Tim have created four fun-loving, free-spirited characters and we're delighted with the direction the series takes."

Produced by Being Human's Philip Trethowan and executive produced by Touchpaper's Rob Pursey, six 60-minute episodes of Switch will go into production in London, Cardiff and Bristol for 11 weeks from April 2012.

Oh and this in spoilers ...

Spoiler

Hope it's a goodie. And no, the fact that its airing on ITV2 doesn't scare me.

Is Lacey Turner now the go-to actress for UK supernatural shows having been in Being Human, Bedlam and now this?

The show sounds a bit lightweight for me, but then maybe I'll fancy something a bit fluffy come next winter.

I guess she has become the new genre girl on Brit TV without intending to. I wonder if this means a Doctor Who appearance is imminent too.

I'll give it a go because it sounds interesting and the fact that it's being made by the same folk from Being Human can only be a good thing.

Rosamund Hanson was very funny of Life's too Short. Agree that the creative team have a good track record, so I'll be watching.

Sounds a bit like "Charmed". They had a similar basic premise with three sisters who were witches. Let's see how "Switch" turns out.

It does seem like a mash up of Charmed and Being Human. It's got good people working on it, so here's hoping it's good and a hit.

Sounds dreadful. ITV should give up on drama, they're no good at it.

Sadly true though based on recent offerings.

I'm thinking they might put in on Sundays at 9pm like BBC3 do with Being Human.

I know ITV2 don't have a good rep (they did subject us to TOWIE after all) but I'm giving this one a chance at least.

It seems filming for this is done, so we should be getting some promos and stuff for it soon.

Nina Toussaint-White mentioned on Twitter doing some ADR work for the series.

So what is it supposed to be? A light supernatural drama portraying them almost like superheros or something a bit darker?

It seems to be more lighthearted.

Think Being Human meets Charmed.

The fact that there's a rival coven as well does probably suggest that the show might have some darkish moments though.

Expect plenty of sex scenes with maybe a splash of violence. We can`t seem to make a drama without them. Be interesting to see how lacey does in this.

She was pretty good in Being Human and Bedlam, so I imagine she'll be fine in this one.

Never watched either of them but have heard she was good. What it does look like is the chances of her ever returning to eastenders are looking less and less likely. I only see her career going from strength to strength from now on.

She was good in them and if you can find in online anywhere, she was also excellent in Frankenstein's Wedding.

I'd rather she didn't return to EE. Post-EE, her career has been really good and she took the role of Stacey as far as she could anyways.

I'll try and find some more information on Switch within the next days.

She's done well so far. It would be a big step back to go back to Eastenders.

She's reminding me of Suranne Jones, since leaving Corrie she's always in one programme or another playing a detective. And now Lacey's becoming a supernatural show regular. lol

Switch makes me think of Charmed without the demons.

Charmed without the demons seems like a fair description, though I'm sticking with my Being Human/Charmed mashup one as well.

Interview with Lacey Turner, some spoilers for Switch here ...

http://www.metro.co.uk/tv/907779-lac...id-being-human

And from the ITV Media site ...

Quote:
Switch, the brand new ITV2 drama which follows four young girls as they try to make their way in London. One small difference... these girls just happen to be witches and in order for their magic to work all four girls must be together.

Stella (Lacey Turner) is the careerist. Always immaculately dressed and with a rotten boss, Janet, who takes great pleasure in telling terrified Stella she’s useless at her job and should find another profession.

Jude (Nina Toussaint-White) is the fashionista of the bunch, stylish, sexy and clothes conscious she works in a fashion store and certainly has an eye for the boys! Free-spirited and cool Gerry, a guitarist in an indie band, is one of her conquests.

Newest to London and struggling to cope with the Big City is Grace (Phoebe Fox). She has a traditional attitude to witchcraft, a strong moral sense and tends to pull the girls back from the brink when they are teetering on the edge of disaster.

Hannah (Hannah Tointon) is the traveller of the pack, who arrives from India at the beginning of the drama. Although devoted to the girls wherever she is in the world, Hannah is restless and a commitment–phobe. She’s also the most spontaneous of the quartet.

The clip show's Stella losing her calm with her awful boss Janet and losing her job in the process. The girls come together to try and get Stella her job back by casting some magic... but only if they can get one of Janet's possessions.

Hannah = Phoebe Halliwell.

I suppose doing these shows in quick succession might mean she'll lose the "Former Eastenders star" tag quicker than a lot of others have.
